I think everyone with a pet should read this article from the Animal Protection Institute. It will change the way you think about pet food if you've been getting it from the grocery store.

My Maltese lived a very healthy life for 17 years and had nothing but Cesars mixed with dry rice and lamb.:thumbup:

We have a 120lb Australian Sheppard that stays outside. I would have to hire a house keeper to clean up the hair and dirt and a full time groomer to bath and brush everyday. Some dogs are meant to be yard dogs.
That is my opinion and I am sticking to it!!!!!:rollingey

Royal Canin for Yorkies is allegedly formulated by nutritionists but I don't think they know Yorkies either. The protein level is way to high even for puppies. Again, you may not see a problem right away but with time you likely will.
People on high protein fad diets are warned or should be, to drink a lot of water. the reason is to reduce the concentration of the toxins of the byproducts of digestion and flush them more efficiently.
what food do you recommend?

I feed mine Canidae ALS and Wellness wet food on occassion, but I don't need to "shame" anyone for what they feed their dogs. It's not like they are starving them, and some people feel differently. I feed IAMS the first few months of Bentley's life because I didn't know better, and he's fine.

Plenty of people feed their kids McDonalds daily and they turn out ok too :).

I'm just saying, it isn't ideal, but it certainly isn't a crime to feed a lower grade food.

LOL I love the McDonalds reply, that is so true. I love my yorkies and I do want the best for them but if they wont eat anything and they are starving then I will feed them what they want, They Love cesars and I feed them that sometimes but they do get high grade dry dogfood all the time.

Let me ask your opinion? The place where I got my teacup Yorkie was feeding the dog Euknuba puppy small bites...Peanut would eat it on a touch and go basis...He is now 8 months and I just ran out of his food and looked at the rating of Euknuba and it was low.. I wanted to go with a better quality of food for him and decided to try the solid gold wee bits.. Is he still to young to be on this food? Its really small bits but for adult. What age should they go from puppy to adult? Thank you in advance for your help

Tricksie also was raised on Euknuba but she did not like it after a few months. I have experimented with Pedigree wet for puppies and Purina lamb and rice dry, she gets tired of food so easily. Waited until she was a year old and switched to Life's Abundance www.premiumforpets.com and still add a tablespoon of Pedigree wet. She usually will eat the wet first but if I don't give her treats she will finally eat the dry.

I just feed dry kibble, but will be changing from Natural Balance to Chicken Soup. I think mine are Natural Balanced out.

Can you tell me about Chicken soup? Do you buy it or cook it?

I have been feeding mine natural balance and I think they may be gaining weight from it, did you notice a weight gain at all? I free feed but they only eat small portions at a time.
