| Weird grunting....????? So when I left my precious little 9 month old baby girl, she was happy and fine. I get home today from work and she is making this weird grunting noise...when she walks....when you go to pet her....but I have checked her out physically and see nothing wrong...she doesn't yelp when I press on her anywhere. She is still running and playing, but acting a little strange...it's just so weird! My hubby said that they were playing and she hit her side on the bed pretty hard, but when I touch it she doesn't make a sound. To be honest, the sound just...I don't know...weirds me out! Ugh! What is going on?! Could she have a cold? Everyone in my house has been sick....can puppies get a cold?

| Thanks for the prayers and thoughts. She is still doing it...she was playing fine last night, but when she moves "stretches" she still makes that noise. My husband and I gave her a head to paw check over...she does not make a peep...it's so weird...I don't want her to be in pain...what if I need to take her to the Vet?

| My yorkie does this as well, she walks and grunts and its supposedly a reverse sneeze. Its helps if you pick them up and sooth them or grab under their ribcage and squeeze. Im not sure if were talking about the same thing, but if we are that usually helps calm them down alot. |

| If its unusual behavior and she hit her side she may need to see a vet. My Jewels grunts all the time but its normal behavior for her

| I would take her to the vet. Better to be safe than sorry. I know I have given my poodle the once over and while he doesnt seem to flinch or show that he is in pain, he had a strained his paw. Please keep us posted.

| re: weird grunting to me, it sounds like it could be reverse sneezing. both of my yorkies do it. I've read that if you plug their nose it helps...Joey and Tank don't like it, but I do it to make it stop. i've heard that also distracting will make it lessen or stop, so i've tried that also. hope you find out what's going on with your baby!

| Thank you all very much! I believe she must be reverse sneezing because I took her to see my Mama's Yorkie, Brodie aka "Her boyfriend" and she never onced did the "grunting" noise. But as soon as she got home, she started it again...so I am going to keep a close eye on her...I might call the vet and see what she thinks. Thanks again everyone!!!!!!!

| plug nostrils and open mouth and it stops immediately. Take a video of it on camera for vet to confirm but probably reverse sneeze from getting excited |

| Saw your note about grunting on google and joined the formu Mgracie, I had to join this form to let you know my little yorkie has been grunting lately too. The other day I noticed after he got down off the sofa that he was limping...favoring one back leg, which was a total shock. Then today, he was sitting watching out the front door, which he loves to do, and I heard loud grunting and so I'm wondering if he is having pain in that leg, even though he doesn't look like he's hurting. I guess maybe dogs don't cry or whimper when they are hurt. He is part-toy poodle and part Yorkie so he is small and I'm wondering if the amount of jumping up and off furniture and in and out the doggie door has injured his leg over his three years of life. He does love to eat more than my other regular size Yorkie, so I was thinking the grunting was from being overweight because he also breathes real loud when he sleeps. I worry about him because he has very short legs and a bit overweight. Please post if you discovered the reason for the grunting. |

| My Yorkie grunts/whines all the time. At first I thought it was because he was hurt but I found he only did it when I was around. Eventually I determined he wanted attention and when I stopped playing with him he would grunt. |
