Safe Snacks I bought "Mini Dingo Chip Twists Chicken in The Middle" bag says safe for small dogs. It does contain rawhide. Any opinions |
Until a member pipes in - I found this thread on the forum: Treats (10-04-2011) |
I would not touch rawhide. It's just to dangerous. |
:) Safe snacks for Harry include....teensy pieces of (home cooked) cooked chicken or liver....fruit pieces (no pips or skin)....hard-boiled egg pieces...veggies galore....:). Loads of YT'ers treat with cheese - and I know this isn't the norm...but cheese really upsets Harry's tummy....:) |
Rawhide is really a nasty product. Not only does it cause intestinal blockages (which often require surgery), it can also harbor salmonella. Also, if you know how they made it, it would make you gag. It's not a raw product at all, and it's hardly a cow hide. They use bleach and chemicals to get it white and clean looking, then usually add in artificial colors to make it look better. Also, check the bag for where it's made. If it's made anywhere besides the US or Canada I would pass. If it was made in China I would throw it and run! |
I've used Himalayan Chews, bits of cauliflower/cheese, Lean Treats, and the Etta Says line. The only ones my minions would fight over are the Etta Says, so needless to say they're a hit. They each have to be in their respective xpens when given one though. |
no rawhide in my house....too dangerous. Buddybear loves raw carrots when I'm chopping in the kitchen he comes running to see what it is so I purposely get some carrots out just for him. I will give him small pieces of fruit that I'm eating except bananas as he doesn't like those. |
For human food treats, Moxie gets pieces of veggies and fruit or occasionally, a small piece of turkey. She loves apples, watermelon, broccoli, green beans, carrots, pieces of lettuce, blueberries. For doggy chews and treats, she gets pigs ear, lamb ears, lamb lung, beef trachea, kangaroo skin, chicken feet, beef tendon, fish skins, chicken hearts, freeze dried mussels, bully sticks, and then these little smoked chicken mini treats or freeze dried beef tongue or whatever. Sometimes doggy pb. I don't do rawhide or any treats or chews made in China, and I don't often use treats with lots of fillers like wheat and molasses, etc. I think the best stuff for them is stuff they could find in nature without a lot of fillers or junk. If only I ate as well! |

Wow, good to know. I'm a little frustrated because a trainer gave her a pig ear before I did :( What about lamb ears? The fat content is not so bad but what about blockages? I saw the chicken and lamb hearts had more fat. |
Treats I give: CET chews, Honest Kitchen Beams, Bullies, RMBs, Munchy Stix (kind of junk treats, but they LOVE). |
Casey really enjoys Himilayan Chews. I misspelled it, i think. One neat trick is to microwave it for about 1min 25 seconds. It puffs up beautifully and is more enticing to my pup. Make sure, though, to let it cool. Does get messy but he really loves it! |
The thing with the microwave trick is that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. When it does they eat it much too quickly. |
