| Acupunture - Alternative Treatment Just wanted to share this information with everyone as I think it's pretty interesting. (Not sure if this is in the right place since it pertains to health, but not a Yorkie?) I know there are alot of people (including myself) that don't want to ever face a diagnosis with their pooch and accept that "nothing can be done." This happened with my aunt, who has a Doberman that was diagnosed with Wobbler's. Instead of a risky, expensive spinal cord surgery with a low success rate, she opted to seek help for through an acupuncture specialist. She has documented Lorlei's journey on her website. I just have to say that I have been with her for the treatments and it is amazing to see such a majestic dog willingly lay down for a stranger to poke around on her! Anyway, here's the link: http://www.wobblerstale.bravehost.com Feel free to sign her guest book, I'm sure she'd be thrilled! |

| I have an older dog with arthritis and my friend recommended accupuncture for it - she had taken her dog who had arthrities from an old injury. My friend said it worked wonders. I'm going to try it!

| I've had acupuncture many time and I am sold on it! It is amazing the results you can feel after just one visit. Sometimes it takes longer, but oftentimes I've had instant relief! I don't think we have any vets around here that do acu, but hopefully soon! That story was amazing! I'm so glad all is going so well for them!

| I've had acu myself for a herniated neck disc. It helped me so I would consider trying it on my dogs too if I needed to. We do have a holistic vet practice in town so now I'm curious to know if they do it...I need to check into that...could possibly even help denero's little stomach trouble...

| Accupuncture works wonders!! Hi, just joined today. Bravely, left a new post about myself and my 2 Yorkies, but I wanted to add to the accupuncture discussion. I used to have a pair of Bichon Frises. One day, my male could not walk - I took him to my vet and he said he had likely had a stroke. He gave Andre a cortisone shot and told me if I didn't see any improvement in 48 hrs, I would have to put him down. After 2 miserable days and nights of sleeping on the floor with my beloved dog - who had sired some of the earliest Bichons in Des Moines - I knew we were at the end. But on the second day there was a story in the newspaper about a new vet in town who did accupuncture - I called Dr. Van up and he said he thought he might be able to help. Andre had one treatment and then we went back the next day - after the second treatment Andre got up and WALKED!! He later would run He lived for almost another 2 years because of the accupuncture treatment. He went on a regular basis for awhile and then on an occasional basis. Dr. Gary Van Engelenburg and his wife, Vicki, and the rest of the staff at Iowa Veterinary Acupuncture Clinic are unbelievable. Dr. Van was a regular vet for years, but that did stop him from learning new holistic techniques. In the winter of 1991 while attending a conference he was "made aware" of acupuncture. He was a total disbeliever and skeptic but attended some meetings out of curiosity to see what kind of "strange people" would try such foolish things in practice. After several sessions total disbelief turned into mild curiosity and Dr. Van started training in April 1991. Now he travels all over the world training others about vet. accupuncture and he is used frequently with the large animals, ie horses, bulls. learn more about accupuncture, herbs, and the best nutrition for your loveable furry friends at his site http://www.apvet.com or from a link on his page I found this site where you can search by your city and state for an accupucture vet: http://www.ivas.org/member_search.cfm |

| Yorkiesmiles--thanks for sharing your story! That is great news and very helpful information! I've never heard of this being done on smaller breeds...but then again, my only exposure to it is through my aunt, as I mentioned. I will forward these links on to her. Thanks again! |
