People Food! My previous yorkie used to pretty much eat whatever we ate at dinner! My mom would make him a little plate and he also loved ham!! But with my new baby were trying not to give him any people food. But its so hardd!!! They look up at you with those adorable eyes and you just melt! One day my dad gave him alittle bit of ice cream and he loves whip cream. So on special occasions I will give him a lil dollop of whip cream but no people food. I was just wondering how many of you honestly feed your yorkie people food? Its like the yorkie rules said, first you swear you wont feed them any and before you know it their getting served dinner before you are! LOL! |

I'm guilty. I had the same rules about not feeding them people food, but now I'm doing it in limited quantities. For example, this morning, Beau had some chopped up Banana, I've let him try apples (but he didn't like them), I usually keep boiled eggs in the fridge and at night if he doesn't eat his dog food (almost all the time), I will smash up some boiled egg for him (not the entire egg, just half at one sitting). He loves it. If I have tostito chips, he has to have some and he loves little bits of cheese. So so guilty am I, I try to be strong, but he just looks so sweet I can't help it. |

I honestly do not give my Mason any human food. The only thing I have ever given him is chopped up carrots because I heard that it is good for his digestive process.....but trust me, I know about those adorable eyes! I don't give in, convincing myself that it's for his own benefit. Since I spoil him in every other way, I figure I have to be strict at least with his diet! |

I don't ever give Stewie anything that I am eating, but I know how you feel. Sometimes he sits on my foot and cocks his head at me. I usually make sure that whenever I am eating, he has his Greenie in front of him or his regular food or a treat of some kind. |

I also don;t give Mojo any people food...just some fruits and veggies, but it is rare!!! I know how hard it is to say no...i also don;t let him bet, he doesn't even get close when i am eating but when we have guests it is another thing...:D |

Feeding your dog people food that is good for them is ok I think. bananas, carrots, cottage cheese, yoghurt, apples, eggs.....as long as your aren't feeding from your plate, at the table and they get it in their bowl they shouldn't beg. |

I'm having the hardest time with this... My fiance always tries to feed him people food, but I get after him. I don't want his stomach upset and I don't want him to get in the habit of begging.... |

I've pretty much stuck to my guns about no people food. Frankie loves his own food, anyway, and doesn't beg yet. Plus, I'd feel way too guilty if I did give him people food, and he had an upset stomach. |

Healthy Food Only! My Artie is a year and 2 months old, when I first got him he was sickly, traumatized and very insecure for a number of reasons. He could not eat his dogfood for whatever reasons @ the time, so I had to hand feed him "People" food he still eats it, but I have to mention that I am a Personal Fitness Trainer/Competitive Body Builder so our diet is very healthy! For breakfast he eats plain oatmeal and egg whites, lunch is either raw/rare salmon or rare steak, or grilled chicken breast, broccoli, eggplant, lowfat cheeses and yogurt. He eats first so he doesn't beg. He also eats Royal Canin kibble whenever he wants, milkbone treats as snacks. But I must admit my Husband used to feed him Ice cream, even though it's sugar and fat free we still fight. He has had everything from Lobster, Crab and even Kim chee and rice (If any ones Asian?) He loves Filipino, Chinese and Japenese food too! But I'm not in the habit of feeding it to him all the time. I beleive he just eats it because I eat it? And he just likes to eat? Anything will do, but it's my responsibility to feed him only the Best and what's good for him. |

1 Attachment(s) I had a beautiful little girl for 13 years . We lost her 2 years ago from Pancreatitis . We used to feed her people food and over the years I truly believe her little system could not handle it . I only wish I had realized how bad people food could be for a puppy. My daughter now has a beautiful little boy homer and we will not be giving him people food unless its vegetable or Fruit. Things with any fat are bad for them . This was our holly |

I've heard these stories much to often to justify feeding my dogs people food. I'm so sorry for your loss |

i had a golden that only lived to be 8 years old (that is not really all that old for a golden, they can usually last up to about 10 or 11 years old) anyways, we always fed her people food, she got cancer, adn had so many problems at the end it was horrible...... i dont let anyone feed toby people food, he is definatly not allowed, however people in my family (uncles aunts ect.....) think because they are older they know best and they have tried to slip him turkey and ham and potatos.... i caught them before he ate anything but still, people not respecting my wishes abotu my dog make me so angry |

Diet Food All my relatives try to feed him stuff, that I don't allow! Let me make it very clear that the food he eats is more like diet food, high quality and high grade, he also eats his kibble, I just supplement it with the people food. :animal-sm |

Is it ok if I give him like a spoonful of ice cream occasionally? |
