Primal Dog Food Has or is anyone feeding Primal to their babies? |
I do and so does Jenny (mimimomo) We love it. I feed the freeze dried food to Galen. I have gone through lots of different types of food . He would eat for a month and then wouldn't eat. He has been consistently eating this for over a year now. And the freeze dried food is best. I pack it on trips. Add a little water and he is good to go ! Galen eats the Primal Duck, Turkey and Sardine, Lamb. I also give him the Stella and Chewy Surf and Turf, Pheasant, Rabbit and Venison. All freeze dried. All of Primals flavors are good ! I hope you try it. Let us know how it goes ! |
Thanks for the reply Teri. I started Gizmo on this last week, but he still seems to be hungry after he eats. I called Primal's customer service line and found out I wasn't giving him enough so I increased it per her instructions. He still seems hungry or maybe he just likes it so much he wants more. Gizmo weighs 6 lbs and I want to maintain his weight so she recommended 3 nuggets per day. Do you mind telling me how much your babies weigh and how much you feed them? |
Yes, I feed Primal and have for about 6 years - LOVE it! |

I feed Wylie (8-8.5lbs) 4 nuggets total per day. I feed Marcel and Pfeiffer (both around 4 lbs) 2 nuggets total per day. I feed our foster, Artie (6.5lbs), 2 nuggets per day + some kibble for each meal (bc I want whomever adopts him to still have the choice of kibble). |
And do they act like they are still hungry? |
Loll @ 1st, they acted like they were starving...it will get better. I split their meals into 3, every 6 hrs. Turbo is 6#'s & to maintain his weight, he gets 3.75 nuggets a day. I weigh them on a baby scale once a month. |
Okay, thank you! |

Thank you all for responding to me. I have noticed that after Gizmo eats he sometimes makes this noise with his nose like it's stuffed. Not sure how else to explain it. I'll try to get a video. It doesn't happen all the time just sometimes. I thought it was because he was eating too fast so now I give him half of the portion and then 10 minutes the other half. Any thoughts? |
I fed the raw variety of this brand & my girl got sick. Had to take her to the vet. Nothing else had changed in her diet so the vet said it was the food. They guarantee their food but it took over a year for me to get a refund. I then tried the freeze dried & that worked better but she quit eating that. |

Good idea, I'll do that. Thanks! |
We feed Chip Stella and Chewy's because that's what the breeder started him on- 2 patties per day with kibble mixed in- and a little Trader Joe's organic chicken stock to wet it- I'm wondering if keeping him on chicken is the best way to go- or if we should switch it up with some beef or lamb? |

I haven't tried Primal because I home cook but Primal is a very good choice for your furbaby! |

I think Chicken is the least fatty for a yorkie. Some dogs don't do well on beef/lamb. Mine threw up after beef so I just feed her chicken. |
I had Gizmo on Stella & Chewy, but after a few months he didn't want it anymore. He really loves Primal freeze dried. I have to split his servings in half and wait about 10 mins because he eats it so fast. I'm afraid he's gonna choke. |

Thank you I have my 2 Yorkies on Fromm but thinking about switching and I have heard a lot of people talking about the Primal freeze dried. So I wasn’t sure if you had to add anything. |
Yes, I feed Primal. In my opinion, a raw diet is best. :) |
Thank you, I did switch both my Yorkies to Primal 2 months ago. They have been getting the freeze dried and raw frozen. They love it so much they whimper while I am getting it ready! I just this week started making some raw meals myself for them and they love that also. I will never go back to kibble after seeing the changes in their energy level, they play a lot more, their coats are shiny, and they poop a lot less and very small with no odour, lol. So much better for them. |
sharp bone fragments in Primal Just ordered a Pork and found the nuggets were really hard to crumble up. Also found about 8-9 pieces of sharp bone - some as long as almost an inch. Took pictures and sent them to Primal with the info on the bag for them to trace the issue. - I always crumble them up. Had fed Chicken and Duck - this is the last time I will probably buy the Pork. |
