Do you rotate your dogs diet ? If so, how often ? My dogs have always been on a rotation diet . Actually my Vet thought it was a good idea . Of course this is NOT ideal for all dogs but my dogs do great with it . (Cats ,not so much . They are super picky . Like to eat the same food :D) I usually rotate my dogs food every 1 to 3 months . Most brands I have tried they do well on but a couple have made them itchy . Those are the ones that only last 1 month . I research each food and company . I contact by email and if they will not give me the answers I want in writing I will not buy the food . I keep all my research in a file on my laptop. I think am going to choose 3 brands that I like best and rotate between those .. Currently they are eating SD but it is making them a little itchy so I am trying Annamaet next . Good food and great company .. |
We rotate our dogs' diet every so often (about 1-3 months, give or take, like you) and usually between a few brands/flavors. Found that if we keep them within a certain number to change with, they usually have no problems when switching over as much as if they got something totally new. (also we generally add the newer food to the bin that has some of the older food left so that it'll mix) |
I rotate btwn Primal and Natures Variety, btwn a few different flavors for them. Duck seems to be their fave though. I think it's good to rotate - just be sure you save a few novel proteins, just in case, for the future if they're needed at some point (like for allergies or whatnot). |

I mainly stick to more common proteins Chicken , Turkey , Beef , Fish .. |
I have gone through many dog food changes in the last year, sometimes because the supplier is out of what I was usually getting, or due to special dietary needs of one of the pups. I also have had the luxury of having one of my tenants have a Pet Supply Store, and I get $50 a month in free food as part of my lease agreement. So, I've sampled many new things in this year. I have been so lucky that my pups have done pretty well on everything I have tried (keeping fingers crossed), and they transition nicely into new foods without problems, and they like them all. |

My dogs have no problems transitioning to new foods either . |

I try to keep notes on what I like or don't like about each different food I try, and funny how I always note how their poop looks, haha. Weird how some foods bulk it up and others make it small, firm and tidy. They are good eaters, and I just have to monitor their intake so the 2 Morkies don't gain weight. Tiki is very slim. |

Yes I also do the poop inspection . When my husband takes one of the dogs out I always ask him " Did he have a good poop ?" :D |
I don't "rotate" my dogs' diets. I do sometimes change up their ingredients for variety but I find they do best eating the same exact thing every single day. |
I just change between Primal and Stella and Chewy Freeze dried. . . Basically the same thing. He loves the food |
No. When ?i homecooked ingredients were switched around. When feeding dog food, no. I find that sticking to one food is best. |
I tried changing foods a few times briefly, but Max and Teddy prefer their one brand/flavor. As long as they like it and are doing well on it, we will stay with the same kibble. They have been with it for about 5, almost 6 years, with only the brief attempt at changes. We supplement with a little homecooked food here and there. |
I kind of do. I don't always purposely "rotate", and I do tend to stick within the same brand, just different flavors for a while. I fed Acana for 2 years and usually switched between flavors, so every 5.5lb bag was a different flavor for example. Now I'm feeding Farmina and have fed Cod, Chicken, and Boar. If I run out of food and am in a pinch, I'll grab Purina Beyond in the grocery store. Cold turkey switches don't seem to bother him at all so yeah occasionally I just decide to switch it up for whatever reason. He gets wet food mixed with his dry, in at least one meal a day, and those can be different too... sometimes I just have to grab something quick at the grocery store, so it ends up being Cesar's or Rachel Ray, sometimes I'll use Weruva... it just depends on where I am that week, or what I'm doing, where I am, how much food he has left, etc. |
All of mine rotate formulas cats and dogs. The dogs get different kibble flavor monthly. The cats get different kibble flavor every 2 months or so but their wet food/THK changes daily. |
Poor Barney we haven't found a food that he will eat well enough to rotate with. He is on Victor grain free right now. I will probably try switching him with the variety you suggested on the Victor thread. He ate it really well for a few days and then tonight, turned his nose up and walked away. This picky eating stuff is ridiculous! |
