Trying to stick to good diet I've been one of those new dog owners that had family that fed my baby table scraps. Eventually she refused dog food all together. For the past month she's been getting boiled chicken with hard dog food crumbled on top. Needless to say she ate mostly the chicken and knocked the dry stuff off as best as she could. I am just not satisfied with this diet. I really believe I'm doing her an injustice so I've dug my heels in and I am once again going to try different dog foods. I went and bought a can of the wellness dog food. She sniffed it and walked away. She does that with all dog foods. We are entering our 3rd day of barely eatting and I'm getting stressed over it. How long should I keep this up. My heart tells me she won't starve herself to death but my mind is on overdrive worrying about it. I'm trying to stay strong. Am I doing the right thing here?

in the long run, it'll be better for your little one if you stick her on a good healthy diet for yorkies. one of the things that can help is not to feed her the same time you are eating so that she's not used to begging at the table for table scraps. with my puppy it's a chore getting him to eat in the morning. but since he loves dairy products, i add a little bit of milk to his kibbles (like cereal with milk!) and the gobbles it up!

Milk Just was wondering - I have picky eaters and they don't always love the stuff that is good for them!! I know it probably a bit different with all dogs but you haven't had any problems with it upsetting their tummies?? I may try that on my days nothing works.

I hadn't tried adding milk because I thought milk was bad for them. However, I read a bit of cottage cheese is OK and that's the way I was going to go. I just put her food down. I know she's really hungry but she walked over to it, sniffed it, gave me an 'are you kidding me' look and walked away. The struggle continues!

i'm sure it's like humans too. there are yorkies that are lactose intolerant and there are those that are fine with dairy. my yorkie is a really picky eater, but he absolutely loves dairy products. i use tiny pieces of cheese as training treats. i also put a little bit of cottage cheese, melted cheese, or yogurt in his kong toys along with his kibbles. and of course, a little bit of milk (like 1 tsp) with his kibbles in the morning. he's perfectly fine. no tummy problems. i don't know if it makes a difference, but i give my puppy the same type milk i drink, 2% low fat. my stomach can't handle whole milk.

| Milk Milk can cause diarhea and isn't good for them... Try Mixing the dog food with cottage cheese or Fat free PLAIN yogurt. My pup also really likes the Iams Gravies which you can get at Wal-mart!
