Apoquel for allergies Has anyone heard of Apoquel or had any experience with it? My George has allergies and over the years we have tried so many things...from allergy testing and shots to Atopica. The only relief he gets is with Temeril P; but even with it he has issues during the time that clover is out (early spring and later in the summer usually). His testing showed a very high response to clover and sure enough, when it is out he is itching. The interesting thing about the Temeril P is that I swear it has kept his CT controlled because he really is basically asymptomatic except for some occasional coughing at night. Anyway..........I took him to the vet today for meds. He was developing a skin infection which is usual for him when his conditions are increased. He had a Convenia injection and he also had a steroid injection to control the itching. My vet suggested I try Apoquel .. it is a new treatment that I had not heard anything about. Just wondering if anyone has tried it yet? He is to start it in a few days after I take him off of the Temeril P .. so I have some time to look into it. |
Yes I heard about it recently. A patient at the vet derm today was using it and saying it wasn't working and was going to Atopica. I think our vet derm uses it and like anything else it depends on what works. |

Alfie has been on Apoquel since it was released here in UK at the start of February, we had been waiting since way last year. Alfie has been seeing a vet derm since he was just 5 months, when he went almost completely bald round both hip areas. He seems to be doing ok, he was taking half a pill morning and night for 2 weeks then down to half just once a day. He mostly has to wear PJs to keep him from ripping his skin, he is definitely not scratching anywhere near as much but I have caught him nibbling his sides a few times, so I will probably increase back to twice a day. Even almost constant steroids don't keep his itching away entirely. Until he started on Apoquel he was taking periton and citerazine (sp?) but usually had to be put right back on prednisone, he also eats RC annallergenic. |
I also posted some links for Apoquel info a while back, I will look and repost here. |

Here is my thread from before with links http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...s-apoquel.html |
I think it is less assaulting on the immune system. I would definitely try this first if I were back in time but Atopica has worked so well for daisy for so long. I hope it works for George! Misty - did you see my post about allerderm? I wonder if that would work for Alfie too! |

Lj -- I've been hearing more and more about it, mostly here at YT. It seems like a great alternative to Atopica! And, perhaps less invasive to the immune system as compared to Atopica. I'm tempted to try it too. |
