Which is better Solid Gold ,Royal Canin or Natural Balance? Which is better Solid Gold ,Royal Canin or Natural Balance? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you had to choose on the better quality of food which would you choose in order and why? Sorry so many options...... :) |
I vote for Solid Gold. Royal Canin has too much fat and I like SG's ingredients better than NB's. |
I would have put Chicken Soup instead of Royal Canin. |
I voted Natural Balance because I think when I researched the ones in your poll that one seemed to have the best ingredients but I personally think there are a lot of others out there, not in the poll, that are better. :) |
I also agree, i am just basing this on what is available at my local stores... thanks! |

I would have voted Chicken Soup as well... but I will be mixing that with Natural Ballance... I am also going to use the natural ballance rolls as training treats... and counting that as part of her daily food intake... I hate junky treats, so I use the most yummy food as the treat and only feed it during training! Plus you can cut it up real small for the little guys so they don't fill up too fast while training! |
Hey... they just opened a Pet Food Express here in petaluma.... Boy was I impressed with their customer service! they really have trained the kids well! They all look to be about 16! lol But are so helpfull and polite! They carry the full Chicken Soup line! But the Natural Ballance seemed a bit Pricey.... And you get a free bag of whatever after you buy three! I am all for free food! |
Petco, sorry my response was to vague..... we don't have anyone locally that carries Chicken Soup so in the meantime I wanted to get my chunkers off of Science Diet... |
Not sure if I'm reading the ingredients correctly, but I think the following have 2 meat products listed as the 1st 2 ingredients: Chicken Soup for the Pet Lovers Soul (has puppy food) Innova (has puppy food) Natural Balance (no puppy food) DID I MISS ANY OTHERS THAT HAVE 2 MEAT PRODUCTS AS 1ST 2 INGREDIENTS????? I haven't heard from any breeders yet. Do they not want to answer or is it illegal for them to say? |
Been feeding Heidi RC for 3 1/2 yrs and never had a weight gain or loss problem or health issues. She hated all the other dry foods we tried at first. She has a tiny bite radius and RC is easy for her to break up. S/W  |

I found this website where you can go and compare brands of dog food. http://www.naturapet.com/display.ph...iz&naturaid=547 __________________ |
Out of all of those, we've only had Royal Canin and we didn't like it. So I can't vote. |
My dog had the itchies eating Royal Canin. They now eat chicken Soup. |
I just thought I would weigh in on Chicken soup and the "Its a Diamond Pet Product!" issue that I know is in the back of everyones mind at the moment given the recent recall. Its been said that the CS products are not part of this recall. But some are still staying away. Talking about Diamond as if they were a "Bad" company as a whole. Not wanting to take a chance at all... I understand this thinking... But the fact is... any company of any consumable product runs the risk of having this happen to them. Its not something they neglected, or a result of bad business. Once the company was aware of the possability of contamination, they recalled the affected product along with others that had even the slightest chance of contact. If Chicken Soup was at all at risk, they would have recalled that too. I bought my first bag yesterday. And plan to feed it as well as Natural Ballance. I made this decision on many factors... Not just the label, or not just Yorkie owners reccomendations, not just my vets opinion, not just my own research, but all of this combined. I just feel like it is hush hush, or frowned apon to rave about Chicken Soup while Diamond is dealing with the contamination issue, and it should not be! It is still an amazing food! JMO :) |
I truly appreciate you putting this into words for us newbies.. It's something all of us needed to hear. As a matter of fact, we are already feeding our Yorkie puppy AND Yorkie senior the Chicken Soup AND I was also thinking of buying some of the Natural Balance Super 5 Puppy Mix to mix together. I'm glad to hear that someone else is thinking along my way of thinking. I agree with you - it's a combination of reasons (same as yours) as to my reasonings. Thanks for your input. Glad to hear from others also.  |

Good post, Kathryn! I use it and will not stop based on this. |
I love Natural Balance and Chewy gobbles it up! I go back and forth with the flavors. I also use the meat rolls when I am out with Chewy and for training treats. I tried RC but too many itchies :( I hav been tempted to try Chicken Soup, maybe down the line, but we seem fine for now on NB. |
We've tried all of them and so far with the itching is concerned, Solid Gold Lamb has been great, all the others we had problems with the itching and scratching. |

I chose Solid Gold because we not only use it for all of our pets but we also sell it so we can get large orders. The food saved one of our dogs who was according to the vet about to pass. He was thin and weak and very sick. All of the tests came out bad. We changed him to the solid gold Hund-N-Flocken food because we read it would help him, and in one week he came back to life and now acts like a puppy. He is now on Holistique food but he is healthy and the vet thinks he will live for many more years. He got over his illness and it was a miracle. I have never had a food he reacted so well to. My yorkies eat the Just-a-Wee-Bit tiny bites food and my puppy eats Hunchen Flocken small puppy food. All of our babies love it so we think it is worth it. :c) |
dog foods I used Solid Gold for several years, then the company changed the way the food was made and my dogs would not eat it. I do not like the YT 28. Puts weight on my dogs very quickly. Although, I do use the RC puppy and baby dog formulas. I like the Natural Balance and feed the vegetarian formula mixed in with Purina Pro Plan. I also add some canned NB for the night meal. Their meat rolls are wonderful as treats and I use it for bait in the show ring. Julie |
I use Solid Gold. The dogs just love it and the size if really easy to eat. We use the Hunden Flocken, not the wee bits. I found that the wee bits had a higher protein content, which I don't care for in these little guys. I like the fact that there is no grain at all which is another plus for me... |
We use the Royal Canine Yorkshire Formula and sometimes mix it with the Royal Canine Special 30 Formula since Mojo is a picky eater. I have never heard of the other foods....can someone tell me more about them? Also, anyone have good suggestions on some canned food? When we brought Mojo home he was on Eukanuba (dry) and little ceasar's (canned), but he soon would not even touch that stuff - plus, I heard that Little Ceasar's wasn't good and that Eukanuba was too fatty. |
Are some dog foods better than others, maybe, are some dog foods more appealing due to the fact they are moister or have more fatty additives in them, maybe. The key is to find a food that keeps your Yorkie at a consistent weight and they enjoy eating. Sudden weight gain or loss when introducing a new food should be the first indication it is not right for your dog. Just my humble opinion. :) S/W |
I voted Solid Gold since the quality is there for all stages of life. |
I give my Miko Natural Balance and just switched to the Duck formula, I think he might have allergies, I see a little less itching since I tried the Duck Formula, if you read the ingredients, they are all natural |
I have a question regarding breed specific foods. Royal Canine for instance, this is the food that I keep hearing pushed at pet stores, while it isn't higher priced than some other good brands. Today I bought a smaller bag of Chicken Soup for puppies and Straszny liked it... a LOT! I just mixed a little into his Eukanuba, but this is what I plan on feeding him thanks to the help from this site. He grabbed a couple of peices of the CS bits and threw it around and played with it before eating it, as if it was a mouse or something. Back to my question though, I know people have differing opinions on what is "the best" food, but is being breed specific "better"? |
I won't use Royal Canin. The others are good foods. Mine won't touch solid gold. I guess it doesn't suit their pallets. Natural Balance is the best that I can easily find and the yorks love. |
