Please don't feed Cesar's!
 

I know that our dogs all love Cesar's wet food but it is SO bad for them. It is made with so many bi-products which we should not be giving our animals. If you are going to feed wet food, at least feed one that is made from good quality ingredients. My yorkie loves Innova and Canidae which are both excellent brands. I hate to see our babies eating the junk that is scraped from the floors. Plus, when we buy their product we are supporting the company and keeping them in business. They should not be allowed to put any of that stuff in dog food. The better brands are a little more expensive but definitely worth it.

I totally agree! The high quality ingredients are especially important to yorkies who are prone to pancreatitus.

Where do you get the Innova EVO? Can you get it at Petsmart or Petco?

The only reason that I wrote in about the Cesar's is because I just wanted everyone to be aware of all of the bi products. When I brought my puppy home, my breeder had sent some Cesar's and I just assumed that it was a good food. It wasn't until I joined Yorkie Talk and started doing some research that I found out that wasn't the case.

Do they make the Innova EVO in wet food or only dry? The protein and fat seem a bit high. My baby is a little pudgy so I have to watch her diet. :)

We used to feed ours caesar's too until someone at Petsmart saw itin our buggy and informed us it wasn't good...I've since read about it on here also so we changed :)

My vet just told us on Thursday that the ceasers we have been feeding is a really bad food, he says that its as bad as cat food for them,that even tho they love it,they also would like cat food too, he recommended we get them on a quality dry kibble and to add whatever we needed to to make the change over...trying to change now,but of cource they are having a fit..oh well,kids cant live on candy and ice cream for all meals eather :eek:

I totally agree. Thank you for posting this. My argument is that it's not even more expensive! At my local Pet Supplies Plus a 5 lb bag of Canidae is 5.99. It takes Loki 6 weeks to eat one bag and he is 8 pounds. Is $1 a week too much to spend for quality food? I sure wouldn't call that expensive. :-)

I can't find canidae! I'm in Queens, NY. Where can You get that? I'm switching from Eukaneba to Nutro. Is that ok?

I pulled up NY and there are several listed. PSP carries lots of good choices, including Canidae.

The Nutro product that is on the Whole Dog Journal's list (www.whole-dog-journal.com) is the Nutro Natural Choice Ultra. I do think you can get that at Petsmart.

You should be able to find Canidae somewhere in Queens. I live in upstate NY and several places carry it. You may need to look at a natural food store. You probably won't find it at the regular pet food stores. If you go to their website, they will send you a free sample. They sent me some coupons too. Same with Innova!

Among other things, the second ingredient is Meat By-Products. This means parts other than meat from "slaughtered mammals" (of unknown origin). I have to put some wet food on Wosie's dry kibble or she won't eat it. What wet food would you recommend? :confused:

I love Innova Evo - everyone I ask who knows about it says it is the best!! I have luck finding it at off name pet supply stores and some smaller pet shops. I believe their website also gives a locator for stores in your area. Someone left the links in another post.

My baby is the same way- I have to put a spoon of wet or something in her dry to get her to eat, otherwise she would litterally starve. I was using Cesar's too and actually just last week switched to nutro wet but I am going to go look at the ingredients. Thanks edouble96 for educatings us on this important topic.

Honestly, Loki used to turn his nose up at his Natural Balance. I just let him get hungry enough to eat it. My trainer and vet assured me he would NOT starve as long as food was available, he was just being picky. However, now he loves his Canidae and he also LOVED the sample of Evo that we tried, but we decided the Canidae was best for him long-term. (He had tummy issues.)

There are a lot of good quality wet food available, too many to list. It wouldn't hurt for you to get a 14 day free trial of the Whole Dog Journal. January's issue has their evaluations of wet dog food (February's issue is always the dry food issue.) For the 14 day trial you can download a PDF of the magazine, and then if you don't want to continue you can cancel it. I really like the magazine, it's like the consumer reports for dogs. I don't believe Innova makes wet food but I could be wrong. Also I think the reason why the protein is so high in the Innova Evo is because it has no grains, which makes it good for dogs with allergies. The regular Innova, not the Evo, may have a lower fat/protein content.

Does anyone feed their Yorkie Royal Canin?

I use Nutro Natural Lamb And Rice and Chicken Soup for Pet Lovers Soul hard food and for the soft which I dont give alot maybe once or twice a week is Nutro Natural Lamb and Rice. When I started Lilli on the soft she got to the point where she didnt want to touch her hard food so I just give it every now and then.Everyone knows how picky a Yorkie can get with their Food:)

I'm glad you posted this. I noticed a lot of YT'ers feed quality dry foods with Cesar's on top. The ingredients are gross.

I am currently also feeding my 4 month old female Cesar's-Is there a food that is best for Yorkies? Our puppy has a strong "doggy" odor-this is our first indoor dog ever- we own and breed German Shepherds(white)-so this whole indoor dog thing is new to us. If anyone has a suggestion we would really appriciate it! Thanks!

Feeding a good quality food should eliminate that doggy odor. Especially with Yorkies, I've found they don't smell like other dogs, they tend not to smell at all. I have allergies to most dogs and I am super sensitive, so I pay attention to these things. Loki only smells if he rolls in something or pees on his feet (he is quite talented at this) otherwise he smells like the lavender shampoo I use on him about once a week. His face gets kinda stinky from his food getting stuck in his beard so I wash his face and eyes once a day with a wash cloth. He is clipped super short so we don't even brush him every day.

For food: TRY Canidae, Natural Balance, Innova, California Natural, or Wellness. Go to these websites and find out where to buy them in your area. Good luck!

Innova makes a wet (canned) food as well as dry kibbles - my Rowdy won't eat the kibbles though, because they are too big (or hard) not sure which.
