I know this is Yorkie forum but need help with dachsund My 11 year old dachshund has started having accidents at night. She had one litter of puppies at the age of 4 and was spayed afterwards. My question is this diapers or medication to treat? It only happens at night time, during day she goes out every few hours. She has no symptoms of kidney infection, but am going to take her to vet to rule it out. Thanks in advance. :confused: |

Hmmm...given her age, I'd wonder a bit about diabetes...is she having any other symptoms, even random ones that don't seem related? I'm glad you're taking her to the vet...I'd prob ask for a full blood workup and maybe a urinalysis. I'll move this to Health and Diet for you so you get more answers :). |

The news is the vet has her going in tomorrow and staying over the weekend, so he can run urine and blood work. He is thinking old age, but is checking for diabetes, kidney stone and kidney/bladder infection. Thank you all for the advice :) |

Vet is running the test tomorrow. I was reading the symptoms, her symptoms that makes me question whether it is diabetes is: she sleeps a lot (but don't know if it is age or heat), she has been acting depressed and clingy (this got worse after Beanie the 14 year old dachshund died), and the peeing.. today she was out every 1 1/2 hours to pee. So hoping to get answers soon. Thank you so much for the positive thoughts :) |
Your little girl is probably too young for this, but we diagnosed our little angel Ashley with Cognitve Dysfunction Syndrome a year before she passed away right before her seventeenth birthday. The symptoms were so subtle in the beginning, and I didn't think there was anything to help her. As a result, even though Ashley had gone to see her doctor about eight times during a six month period, I never mentioned the strange behaviors to him. Once I did, it became so obvious what was going on with Ashley. Oh my goodness how she reminds me of my Odie that we lost about 3 years ago. Praying the vet will find what is wrong and it will be simple. As Odie aged, he had to get up and down more during the night. He had arthritis really bad so he didn't always make it to the pee pad in time. I started putting his pad and his water bowl right beside his pet bed that he slept on. I don't know if this helps in your situation. But I thought I would share it anyway. Please let us know what the vet says and thank you so much for the pictures. |

The vet is waiting for her to co-operate and pee so they can get a catch to see if she has bladder or kidney infection also they are running complete blood panel. Of course, Ginger waits for the vet to be busy and pees in the kennel, which is making it a bit difficult. Tho personally I think she is enjoying making them take her on short walks lol |
