Got it down I got the list of foods down to three. These foods seem great. Now which to get. I found : Orijen puppy Puppy | Orijen Canine Caviar lamb and pearl millet http://www.caninecaviar.com/product/lamb-pearl-als/ Earthborn Meadow feast Meadow Feast - Ingredients : Earthborn Holistic Pet Food They are all great foods. I was wondering which to get. Getting him off California Natural Lamb and rice. |

I just found out for Biewers, I need to try to get a kibble not higher than 28% or less even better. So Orijen is out. Good idea Michelle thanks :) |
Toki's currently on the EB Meadow Feast. She seems to like it and be doing well on it! |

Glad to see you've got one in mind, hope Galen does fantastic on it! FYI, if there's other sources of protein coming from veggies like peas or from grains like corn, the actual crude protein coming from the actual meat protein is less. |
Yeah I saw. I love that Earthborn has flaxseed and cranberries and Blueberries. But I worry about all the peas and tapioca. Canine Caviar has less ingredients but no peas and tapioca. I do not know that I am just making myself crazy over this. Here is the ingredients of both Earthborn Holistic® Meadow Feast™ Natural Dog Food: Ingredients Lamb Meal, Peas, Tapioca, Canola Oil (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E), Pea Protein, Pea Fiber, Flaxseed, Natural Flavors, Blueberry Fiber, Cranberry Fiber, Apples, Blueberries, Carrots, Spinach, Cranberries, Salt, Potassium Chloride, Choline Chloride, DL-Methionine, L-Lysine, Taurine, L-Carnitine, Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement, Zinc Sulfate, L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate (source of Vitamin C), Ferrous Sulfate, Niacin, Calcium Pantothenate, Riboflavin Supplement, Copper Sulfate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, Beta-Carotene, Manganese Sulfate, Zinc Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Calcium Iodate, Cobalt Carbonate, Folic Acid, Sodium Selenite, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Yucca Schidgera Extract, Rosemary Extract, Dried Lactobacillus Plantarum Fermentation Product, Dried Enterococcus Faecium Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus Casei Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus Acidophilus Fermentation Product. 28% what? Protein? |
Good read on Pea Fiber here, it's an insoluble fiber, so it will add bulk to the stool & help the food pass through the stomach & intestines. Wonder why they need this? It's a highly processed food & it needs help getting digested. Another Pet Food Filler Ingredient Revealed: Pea Fiber Talks about tapioca here, it's essentially a binder/filler. It's in some grain free kibbles to help bind it. It's not considered good bc it's high up on the ingredient list, so there's a significant amount in the food. Raw Kibble: Is This Pet Food Good for Your Pets? Since Earthborn gives out samples, I would try it & see how Galen does on it. If he does well (nice firm poopies is a way to tell), that's all that matters. The above 2 ingredients will not hurt him. There's going to be something in EVERY kibble that's not nutritious for a dog or cat...there's no perfect kibble. You can supplement by giving canned food or fresh veggies (slightly blanched & blended is best), boiled/cooked chicken or salmon, etc. all w/no additional seasonings. Help put some moisture into his diet & a little more protein bc actual protein coming from a meat source is much much less. |

Peanut tried the Lamb and Pearl Millet ALS dinner he really liked it. |

Toki is currently eating the EB Meadow Feast...she's lost a couple ounces on it (which is good in our case!) and I have Teddy on CC Open Sky. I also picked up a bag of the grain-inclusive CC (Chicken and Pearl Millet) when I had my store special order for me so I'm curious if those formulas are as good as the grain-free. So far so good for both pups! |

Yikes.. Peas ,Pea protein, AND pea fiber, along with tapioca, flaxseed- Peanut would not be able to tolerate those ingredients. |

Toki is pretty non-discriminating when it comes to dog food so I'm hoping she'll eat the chicken...worst case scenario is us having to dress it up with wet food which she gets anyway so not a big deal. And I'm really glad that we tried the CC for Teddy...he had okay stools on the several trial size bags of Royal Canin YT that we went through but they got pretty soft if we tried to increase the amount of food that we gave him (too much I guess?). With the Open Sky, his stools are pretty awesome even with the increased amounts of food we are feeding him to put on weight so that makes me happy...and his coat is so dark, shiny, and smooth! Not sure if it's the food or fish oil or something else but we'll definitely keep CC in our rotation! |

I called up Canine Caviar and asked them a few questions. I also asked if they have sample packages. No they don't. I guess I have to go to the store in the next state. The store is only 21 miles away |
