Thanks a bunch! Why do you like those two in particular?? |
Definitely read the reviews on dogfoodadvisor.com. And please remove Pedigree from your list--it contains a lot of substandard ingredients. |
I was just wondering what you guys would recommend. Like I said, these aren't my limited options..just a few to get feedback on. I want the most natural and healthy food for her. :) |

My first instinct is Blue Buffalo. I've just heard awesome things about it. She's only 14 weeks and she's being fed Purina Healthy Morsels. She has the wetness round her eyes though, so won't a better food help with that? |

Food BB and Wellness are good foods with similar specifications as I remember. I feed Canine Caviar now because my dog went off the two abovementioned foods. ( why I know not!). The CC is fed by many here who love it but as it is a small company I don't know if it is rated. It has very small, caviar, size that I like as my dog does not chew his food. Even 'good rated' foods can sometimes have issues and one thing to look out for is if it is or has been recalled for any reason. You will read here various reports on preferred foods, and what is good for one dog may not suit another. If you can get samples from a pet store to try first that is helpful. But usually stores will refund for any unliked food bags. I suppose you know this, but it is best to slowly introduce a new food by increasing its mix with existing food gradually over about a week. Sudden changes can cause gastric upset. Good luck, hope you have a dog who is not picky as many Yorkies can be.......drives us nuts!! |
We feed BB and Canine Caviar.. |
I feed Morgan grain free merrick |
Okay so are there any flavors that are more beneficial? Like with BB, there's… Chicken and Brown Rice Lamb and Oatmeal Chicken and Oatmeal I guess what I'm asking is, do any of you suggest a certain BB? |
BB I fed BB chicken and brown rice, small breed adult. I fed chicken as that was what my dog had always been fed with no problem. Again, it depends on what your dog does well on and likes. Some cannot tolerate certain animal proteins, or may do better with a certain protein or fat content.......and on and on! So many choices! |
What something is rated means nothing really its about the company, the ingredients, and what works well for your dog. I would not use Purina because they are the makers of the waggin train chicken jerky that was killing and making hundreds of dogs sick and took them years to pull they are also are saying one of there dog foods they make is killing dogs or making them very sick. Please research a company before deciding on them. I personally can not feed my dog grains or she breaks out and I don't think grains are necessary in dog food. Make sure you change your puppies food very slowly or they could get an upset tummy. I honestly would keep them on the same food for at least a month after getting them and then switching them. Give them time to adjust and don't switch every single thing on them at once. The maker of that website is not a vet nor a vet nutritionist. |

Not sure what you can get over there but mine do really well on James Wellbeloved & Royal Canin Yorkshire. |
Hi there, This is the first time I have read one of your posts (abt the dog food) but it was very informative. Then I looked at your album with your baby's pics. This is one of the most beautiful Yorkies I have ever seen. Do you mind telling me where you got him/her? Thanks! |
Here is a very informative website about feeding dogs: PetDiets - VNC putting pets' health first! It is maintained by a veterinary nutritionist. You can ask her questions and she will respond! |
We have our girls on Acana food, it's rated city high, one site even said it was "enthusiastically recommended"!!! They LOVE it, they actually went through the trouble of picking the eukanuba pellets out onto the floor just to get to the Acana! |
Rated VERY high, not City high, oops! |

I currently feed Nilla Canidae. I was entertaining the thought of trying Canine Caviar, but since she and my husband's big guy both share a 44# bag, I will probably stick to that for now. xD Employment woes! ... but anyway. Dog Food Advisor is one of my best friends on the Internet, and I whole - heartedly agree that you should use that resource! |
Science Diet is one of the most reputable companies for dog food. I would NOT remove it from the list. Here is a great food that I feed my pups and they are doing fantastic. Grain Free Natural Chicken & Potato Recipe Adult - Dry Or they have salmon: Grain Free Natural Salmon & Potato Recipe Adult - Dry As for Dog Food Advisor, to each his own. My understanding is that he is a human dentist. I prefer consulting with veterinary nutritionists as I believe they have the education and first hand experience regarding my pups' nutritional needs. |

Check out Nutrisca......they have grain free, potato/tapioca free kibble. It is small, (size of a pencil eraser) has a 5 star rating but only available in speciality pet stores or online. I ordered mine from a Pet store 50 miles from my home. They were very helpful and the manager feeds it to her dog who has allergies. It also comes in 3 proteins.....lamb, chicken & salmon. I just started adding it to their original food, and so far they love it and have on ill effects. |
I feed my yorkies blue buffalo chicken and rice- they eat it - i add a bit of water and a little wet chicken and veg made by b.b. they have well formed stools - i am happy with this food- |

My babies love 4carna dog food. Nothing in it from china and no recalls ever Gives me peace of mind . |
I like FROMM myself. My Zoey was one of Nestle Purina's (Waggin Train/Canyon Creek) tainted jerky treat victims so I would not recommend them to anyone. The same with DelMonte AKA Milo's Kitchen. |
