My poor Wallee is under the weather today
 

The day started out normal, Wallee was his usual self. I had him out in the yard with me for a bit while I spread dirt. We came in and of course, he was filthy and had to be bathed. He did his usual running around after his bath and then after we finished brushing him, he went to his bed. I thought nothing of it as he may have just been worn out from the bath and stuff. He stayed in his bed "all day" except when I took him for a walk. He didn't reall want to walk and I ended up carrying him part way. We came back home and he went back to bed. He has barely gotten out of bed at all. He wont eat and I found a little bit of vomit on the carpet which I assume is his (I also have 4 cats) since he is so not himself. I even tried offering him a piece of cheese and a cat food kibble (which he usually steals) just to see if he was hungry at all. Nothing. He is laying beside me on the couch as I type sleeping once again. He is not a tiny guy probably around 12lbs so I wonder how long I should let him go without eating? I have to go back in hospital myself tomorrow so my hubby said if he is acting the same he will take him to the vet for me. This is not the Wallee we know. He didnt even greet my hubby at the door tonight. I hope he didn't eat something in the yard when I had my back turned. Is there any other advice I should give to hubby tomorrow when I am in hospital?

Watch him very closely. You never know what these Yorkies can get into. If he is still not eating I would probably take him in for a check. Little Yorkies can go downhill very fast. Be sure he is not dehydrating. I will pray for Wallee to get better soon.

Thanks Sandy. It is 10:00 and we were just about to head to bed and Wallee started to vomit. Of course he has nothing on his stomach so it was only bile. I gave him 1/4 of a gravol crushed in a little water and hope we make it through the night without him getting worse.

Praying for Wallee but let hubby get him to the vet tomorrow and see what is going on. No Yorkie will lie around in bed all day unless something is wrong and most won't refuse food either. Is your additional surgery tomorrow? I'll sure be praying for you, too! I hope everything goes well. Please report as soon as you can if it is surgery or something else you are going in for and let us know. Praying for the best for Wallee and you.

Thanks Jeannie: I am so worried about my little guy that I haven't given much thought to my own hospital trip. I am going in to have the stent removed that they had to put in when I went in to have the gallstones removed from my bile tract in March. I sure hope that my pancrease doesnt go nuts like last time as I ended up being admited and put on morphine. Especially not with my little guy sick. He has never laid around like this. In fact we call him energizer Wallee cause even after a 45 minute walk he will play ball for hours. I sure hope the gravol settles his little stomach and he is feeling better before morning. It will be hard for hubby to tell if he is feeling better cause he just lays around and mopes in his bed when I am not here. I'll try to update in the morn before I leave.

I figured it was about time to get that stent out and what terrible timing. I'm sure if he's still not eating tomorrow after fasting today, it will be a dead giveaway he's not right. But the vet will tend to Wallee and you try to go on and get your surgery and leave him in the capable hands of your vet. That way he'll be getting help, maybe even an IV, medication and feeling better soon about the time you are home. I hope your pain isn't so bad and things are better for both of you very soon. I'm praying hard for both of you.

It just came to me... there's a bunch of stuff... fungi and bacteria that they can pick up in dirt. How long ago was the first time you took picks of him helping you in the yard? 2-3 weeks? That would be a suspect incubation period... I'd get him to the vet or even an ER tonight anyway as you said DH won't be able to tell if he's doing better or not.

Poor little Wallee. He doesn't sound like he is well and I would definitely get him to the vet tomorrow. Perhaps you should take a stool sample in if you can get one. That tells the vet alot. I do hope he just has a little upset tummy and nothing else. I will be thinking of you and Wallee often.

Cindy I am sorry to hear Wallee is not feeling well. And on top of it you are going in to surgery. Good thoughts and blessings to you both.

praying for Wallee. I hope he did not eat any grubs:( Daisy ate grubs once out in the yard and got very sick. We ended up in the ER, I would get Wallee to the vets bc there are so many things that they can eat in the yard and grubs are one of the things that can make them sick....Sending prayers

Thank you everyone for the prayers. Seems prayers do work. I came out of my procedure very groggy (seems they must have given me more anesthetic than before) and don't even remember getting dressed to go home, but thankfully pain free.
As for Wallee, he had started to at least drink some water during the day so hubby waited to get me home from hospital before taking him to the vet. :mad: Seems we for sure need a new vet. The vet took a look at Wallee and could see no fever, and said he was only "somewhat" dehydrated. He wanted to run the usual bloodwork, start an iv but..here was the kicker. Since his office would not be open over the next two days, he wanted to ship him to another hospital to spend the weekend. The price for this weekend locked in a cage would be $675.00. When my husband asked if there was an alternative, the vet litterally walked out of the room.:confused:
So with that attitude, hubby brought him home and we cooked him some chicken breast in broth and fed him that. (Although I was sleeping once again) hubby woke me to tell me he ate a rather substantial amount of chicken and drank the broth he added). We agreed to wait till this morning to see how he was as he seemed on the mend. Well, wouldn't you know it? This morning we have our Wallee back. hahaha....first thing he did was run to the kitchen to steal cat kibbles left behind on the floor from the cats eating. He then ran to his pad to pee and then chased the cat. He seems so much better so I am sure it was from something he ate in the yard. Your prayers must have helped a lot too as he was really under the weather. He loves being out in the yard with us, but I do find it very difficult to keep him from picking stuff up as he always has his nose into something and even watching him like a hawk, he usually has something in his mouth already or has swallowed it by the time I cross the yard to get to him. Today I will keep him inside except to go pee and monitor how much he eats and drinks, but looks like we are out of the woods. :thumbup:
