Interceptor
 
Well went to interceptors website and they have a pop up that comes up and says interceptor will no longer be made. Just thought I would post that.

Not really it has the flea stuff in it and some of us don't want that.

Oh, didn't realize that. I don't need the flea stuff and don't want Tibbe to have it. He's got trouble enough. Pretty certain that I need to change Tibbe's heartworm preventative now since his bad time after getting Heartguard, though might not be related. Taylor, what are you using?

Sentinel is a great product, I don't mind the flea protection and its very safe even for my disabled dog.

It is just a chitin inhibitor to stop reproduction. I :love: it.

I found this out at the vets the other day she suggested Trifexis does anyone know anything about this? I still have 3 months left on the interceptor. I liked it bc none of my dogs had a problem with it. I am scared to try new products especially on Daisy with her history:(

I have heard a lot of bad stuff with trifexis I personally don't trust it.

I, for one, am bummed there's no more plain old Interceptor being made.

I'm actually really surprised, with all the dogs out there all requiring heartworm meds, that there aren't more companies making heartworm protection. You'd think we'd have more to choose from.

Absolutely if you don't want the lufeneron then it is out. It is the only one on the market that I am completely comfortable with except HG which my chica can't have.

I think it really sucks for those with collie breeds... Ivermectin (like in Heartguard) is known to have deadly effects in these and some other breeds. So I guess their options are now extremely limited?

We're perfectly content with Heartguard now.

I am not comfortable with the added flea stuff especially sense I used Advantix on her. I have been using heart guard with no problems but I liked interceptor better. Just annoyed a bit they stopped making it.

:(:(:( I'm really bummed because Interceptor covered a couple worms that none of the others do. I also liked that my boys did well with it.

I guess we will stick with the Heartgard.

Well, I would not use it with Avantix II. I'd use it with Advantix original.

I don't blame you -- I don't see a need. I'm sure it won't hurt them or make them 'drop dead' of course, but it does seem a bit excessive. I wouldn't do it with both especially considering I've never once seen a flea (even when not on any flea/tick meds). So I refuse to treat something that's not a problem. And Advantix already covers more than Frontline, so it's even more. Frontline doesn't help at all here for ticks -- if anything I find it attracts them, so we can't use FL anymore.

Can Callie not have Heartguard?

I have original Advantix. Didn't even realize there was an "II". What is the difference?

We got ours from EntirelyPets.

Advantix is permethrin for ticks and imidocloprid for fleas. This is an adulticide only.

sentinel is for heartworms but adds the inhubitor for fleas. You are not doubling up on anything unless you use Advantix II.

Kristin, Ellie can't have the meaty chew.
...besides it is one active ingredient versus two in HG.

Yeah she can have it but I just liked the extra worm protection but I honestly have no idea how likely she is to even get the things the interceptor protects against that heart guard doesn't.

You just made me think, and I know this is just a coincidence, but weird . . . I saw the first flea in my life after we switched from Interceptor to HG last year. They were really bad in our area and my vet warned me because we weren't using the Frontline.
