milk.... can you give a yorkie milk? also how do i go about cleaning his ears? |
Milk will give them diarreha! Usually a big no no. There is stuff you can buy for the ear cleaning. I just use a q-tip after her bath, and it has been fine. Don't forget to pluck the hairs in the ear, you don't want an ear infection. Pat |
Its not a good idea giving cows milk they have a hard time digesting it....when ever you want to use milk suppliments use goats milk, cottage cheese or even yogurt. As for cleaning the ears I use warm water and vinegar solution (its more natural than buying an ear cleaner) and a q tip. If you think there is ear mites a drop or two of cooking oil into the ear will cure it , it will drown the mite and no costly vet visit. |
You mean like a vegetable oil that you would use to cook food with? |
Gees Thanks, Kimberly! I put that in my notebook for tips. That's great to know! Now, any ideas how to keep mosquitos off them when we take them out? I am worried this summer because of West Nile Virus! Pat |
yep as simple as veggy or olive oil but DONT OVER DO IT! just a drop or two and it drowns those pesty little mites:) as for as Mosquito there is something called the Mosquito Barrier and is a variation of Garlic Barrier. Mosquito Barrier kills and chases mosquitoes, ticks and fleas out of the yard and away from the house immediately upon spraying and keeps them out for 4 weeks and longer. Spray onto grass, shrubs, flowers and any trees in the area. Safe for children, pets and plants. My Nephew lives in Texas this is what he uses |
cooking oil! Who woulda thought?! I'll keep that in mind! |
Wow Kimberly! I will have to find that spray! It doesn't hurt your dogs, huh? Snoodles is a bugger for eating grass. Probably becausse I don't want her to. She will look right at me, and then pulled a mouthful, bard and then run away from me and eat it as fast as she can! She is a little imp! They know how to push one's buttons and enjoy it all to heck! Ha! Pat |

Thanks for the mosquito tip. I wonder how it lasts up to 4 weeks. I live in Florida and I can't go in my back yard during the summer. |
I was just reading that mosquito website and this was on there: Is there an all natural mosquito repellent I can put on myself that works? Yes. Excellent results can be obtained (up to 5 or 6 hours of protection) by using some common household items in a simple mixture you can make yourself! Simply mix 1 teaspoon of soybean oil (available from your grocery store) and one quarter of a teaspoon of Palmolive liquid soap into one cup of water. Mix well and spray onto your arms and legs and wipe on your face and neck. |
Your Kidding Me? That sounds so simple and unexpensive compared to the mosquito repellants. Let us know how it works, because you will get mosquitos a lot faster then I will here in Montana. Pat |
Thanks Kimberly for the ear mite advice!! When I first got my Maggie, she had mites and the medicine was $22.00 for a little bottle and I had to do it once a day for 3 weeks!! We can all use this info!! Do you just have to do it once? Great tip on the mosquito stuff, too. |
Gingi My sister sent me a list of "Home Remedies" and this is what it says exactly about Ear Mites........"Eliminate Ear Mites" - Put a few drops of Wesson Corn Oil in your dog's/cat's ear. Massage it in, then clean with a cotton ball. Repeat daily for 3 days. The oil soothes the dog's/cat's skin, smothers the mithes, and accelerates healing. |
Do you really havr to pluck the hair from their ears? Doesn't it hurt? Should I be doing this now?? She is four months. |
