YT 2000 Club Member | Open Fontenal question..... Tatiana has an open fontenal about the size of a pea. There is no fluid or bulging as of right now. My vet says it might close some but not all the way. So....my question.......how do I protect her from an injury to that spot? She is wanting to play with Teeka and I am so scared that the soft spot on her head will become injured in their play. I monitor them closely, but it make me nervous! Any one with info or a link that would give me insight as how to protect her? Do I allow her to play with other puppies, like her cousins? The oldest is 1 year to the youngest 9 weeks. Tatiana is tiny....1.6lbs!

| Hi Deb, I never heard of this in animals but it makes sense as our skin babies have soft spots. I'm sorry your pup has this problem but I will certainly keep her and you in my prayers.

| Don't know about puppies but have been a NICU nursefor almost 30 years.Parents are usually terrified of hurting the "soft spot". Now I'm not advocating rough treatment but the little buggers are tougher than you think. The membrane coveribg the brain is very thick. |

| my lil Taka also has a soft spot about the size of a dime and he's only 4lbs at 5 months. i took him to the vet just to make sure there wasn't anything major going on and the vet said that since he's so old it prob will never close. also, as long as he doesn't hit a corner of the table or fall directly on it, he should be ok. he plays really rough with my other yorkie so i constantly watch him and have made sure the corners were out of the way. i can also suggest using the protectors that help babies from hitting their heads on corners. it doesn't seem to bother him at all when he hits his head but it freaks me out!! hope this helps a little!! |

| this may sound weird but maybe during rough play you could put a little hat on the pup that has a little extra padding in that area. Some people on here are wonderful knitters and could probably make a cap. you could the npad the top a little more... |

YT 2000 Club Member | Excellent idea! My mom knits and I could probably get her to make one with ear holes. Thanks!

| Chloe has one too. I like the hat idea. Other YT's told me that they put their top knots over that area.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I put Roxie's bow over it too give extra protection. She has done fine even with rough housing with the others.
