I don't want to scare you but I thought I'd mention that in the past few months I've known 2 people who had their puppies wounds open up after surgery. One was due to licking the wound which they restitched but the puppy still ended up dying. The other one is my neighbors yorkie and the vet said her body was dissolving them. I'm not sure if they used glue or dissolving sutures. She had to be restitched but is doing well now. Just keep a close eye on her and the wound. My little girl was spayed a month ago and did great and was back to herself a couple of days after surgery. She had to have her sutures removed which was a piece of cake. She didn't flinch. |
Blood work was done & she was cleared to have the procedure today. We dropped her off this morning at 8:30AM & the procedure was scheduled for noon. Spoke to the vet at around 4PM, surgery went well, no complications. Camrey was in recovery but still groggy from the anesthesia and pain meds. They kept her over night to monitor her. We can pick her up between 10AM-5PM tomorrow. I'll be there at 10AM!!!! I keep thinking she is going to wake up in the middle of the night looking for us and flip out!!! She has such separation anxiety. Poor baby! After reading what LibbysMommy posted, I am almost relieved that they kept her over night for monitoring!! I would have been a wreck. Hopefully by the time we pick her up tomorrow the anesthesia will be completely out of her system & we'll just have to contend with the pain meds. LibbysMommy.... How is Libby now? I'm guessing she was moaning because she is probably a little sore from the incision and the anesthesia & pain meds have to make her loopy. Sending good thoughts your way for both of you. Please let me know how she is doing!!! |

Camrey has been home since 10:30AM. The crying is nonstop! Its heartbreaking. She must have been starving because she ate her food at around noon. Even took her meds. I want her to just lay down & sleep, but the crying wakes her up. The e-collar stinks, she doesn't like it at all. LibbysMommy.... How is Libby doing?? |

The e collar we were given sucks too. If you go to petsmart of some pet store you can buy a much better one for her. That's what we had to do. |

Within the last year I've had four of my girls spayed. I only had problems with one, Destiny. Her first day home, she cried a lot. She was in quite a bit of pain the first week and stopped eating and drinking but once we got her more pain medicine and took her off the inflammation medicine she started eating and drinking again. She cried anytime I was out of her site. Luckily I took the week off for her. She had me really worried and upset as I've never seen one take a spay that rough. The second week though she was all better. The other 3, were up and wanting to play and run the next day, didn't bother them at all. The panting is usually a sign of pain especially if they seem restless or can't get comfortable. I'm glad to hear your little girl is doing great with her spay. Sometimes the hardest part about the spay is keeping them down or inactive until they are healed as they just want to start running and playing right away. |
I am lad to hear she is on the road to recovery. How is she doing today? |
How did Camrey do? Hi. I am new to this site, and a first time Yorkie owner. Our puppy, Pippy, will be spayed tomorrow, and I am also very nervous. She is very small (3 lbs) and it worries me. I have read all the replies here and am thankful for them! I hope Camrey did well! |
Camrey was more like her usual self today. No crying, unless I was out of the room! LOL The hardest part is keeping her inactive!!! Today she kept jumping up on the couch & down again!! She was driving me nuts. We put all her toys away, but she still wants to play. She has been rolling around on the couch. The incision looks the same as it did yesterday, so I think she is fine. I have to work tomorrow, but I work from home. She'll be in the office with me, probably in her bed. That is her usual spot while I work. Hope Pippy's surgery goes well!! Please keep me posted on her progress. Thank you all for the kind words & very useful advice. It is much appreciated!!! |
Missy's spay tomorrow! Very nervous mommy here! Vet also has suggested a onesie, hoping it works well. Missy always licking everywhere... Thinking I will be a nervous reck ... Did anyone keep their babes in a crate at night or best to keep her in bed with us??? |
