coconut oil??? When using coconut oil for itching pups do you put it on the, in there food, or put it in their water? Im just asking im not sure how it is used. |
I usually put it on "hot spots" after a bath. make sure you part the hair really well and put a bit directly on the skin. Try not to get too much on the hair otherwise your yorkie will look really greasy :D I mix it with food too, but Uni will take it right off the spoon. She loves the stuff. I got two jars from Tropical Traditions like a year and a half ago. I'm almost done with the 2nd jar. I wouldn't add it in water, bc it will just float on the top and if the water is cold it will seize up. Use it to cook scrambled eggs too. Good for both you and your pup. |
Totally agree. In the food and on the hot spot. I once thought I'd try putting some on Mandie's dry/static hair....big mistake! LOL! She was so greasy looking and I had JUST bathed her. Lesson learned... |
I think I am going to try it on honey Im thinking this is the last thing I can do before we have to start doing test. I will be trying this when I go get it from the store. I really hope it works. |
I just got some, and since I heat up Lexie's food, it'll mix in nicely with it. Can't wait to see results, not that she itches or anything. Just for the coat. I'm obsessed with shiny hair! :) |

Bilbo loves it! I give him about 1/8 teaspoon a day. He licks it right off the spoon. I'll use about 1/16 teaspoon on his skin after his bath, because it's really dry in my part of Texas, too. I also use it on my cuticles, especially in winter. |

Mine just eat if right off a spoon. They love it! |
Lola has no allergies or skin conditions, but her hair is dry and could be shinier so I wanted to try some. At first she took it off the spoon but now will not and since I free feed her dry food not sure how I can get it into her. I tried warming the oil and spooning in in her mouth but that is messy and a hassle plus she does not like me doing that. So this honey idea is intriguing, I am assuming honey is ok, but I would be worried about giving her to much sugar every day. |
Try using it to brush her teeth, Donna. It is actually the ONLY way Mandie will let me brush her teeth. I use at least a 1/8 tsp (probably a tad more). She thinks she's getting a treat so it's win/win :) |

I suppose you could mix a little raw (organic) honey with VO coconut oil...actually, it sounds yummy...maybe on toast for breakfast for me...lol...and since honey is not a mfg'd product like corn syrup, as long as you are using raw honey (not refined in any way, or pasteurized, etc.) I would not think of it as an issue. Honey is anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, anti-viral, etc. and handled in the body as a whole food, where a refined sugar is torn apart from the other food constituents...proteins, etc...by the refinement process and is handled completely different in the body. I use it in organic green tea when I come in contact with micro-organisms...such as having work done in the ceilings at work when they set all the dust mites flying through the duct work to infect all workers equally...lol. It's been really beneficial for me. I am thinking back and wondering but I cannot recall ever actually deliberately giving honey to any of my 'kids' so I am not sure whether they'd even eat it or not. You can put minute amounts of VOCO on their coats without making them greasy-looking. You can put very small amounts into a spray bottle of water, too, and use it as a brushing/combing/detangling spray...shake it well before spraying and warm the bottle if it is cold in the room to make sure the VOCO is liquid. Another thing you can put on their hair to control the static is emu oil...make sure to get the "Montana..." brand, though. Again...minute amounts. My kids LOVE that as well, and will 'fight' to lick it off my hands while I try to put in on their hair, skin, etc., so sometimes I just let them have some to eat. :p:D |
So, where do you buy the coconut oil? |

:eek:Oh my, thank you for pointing this out, you are right, I see that in her profile. I did not see a cap on the letter H and read quickly, I thought it would be odd to give that much honey to a small dog, I would have checked first, but thanks for saying something |
Sorry for the confusion....Honey is my baby I wasnt going to give her honey lol. |
Also can you get coconut oil from walmart? If so what kind does everyone get? |
I buy the organic cold pressed coconut oil from GNC. I believe the brand is called nitivia. |

I have been using coconut oil for one of my dog's ear infections... as a preventive not to cure. I just put some on a qtip and clean his ear. I have purchased the organic coconut oil from publix (grocery store in fla) and at gnc. I have been wanting to try and make my own... I do have coconut palms in my yard and a vitamix ..we will see:) |
