coconut oil???
 
When using coconut oil for itching pups do you put it on the, in there food, or put it in their water? Im just asking im not sure how it is used.:confused:

I usually put it on "hot spots" after a bath. make sure you part the hair really well and put a bit directly on the skin. Try not to get too much on the hair otherwise your yorkie will look really greasy :D
I mix it with food too, but Uni will take it right off the spoon. She loves the stuff. I got two jars from Tropical Traditions like a year and a half ago. I'm almost done with the 2nd jar. I wouldn't add it in water, bc it will just float on the top and if the water is cold it will seize up.
Use it to cook scrambled eggs too. Good for both you and your pup.

Totally agree. In the food and on the hot spot. I once thought I'd try putting some on Mandie's dry/static hair....big mistake! LOL! She was so greasy looking and I had JUST bathed her. Lesson learned...

I think I am going to try it on honey Im thinking this is the last thing I can do before we have to start doing test. I will be trying this when I go get it from the store. I really hope it works.

I just got some, and since I heat up Lexie's food, it'll mix in nicely with it. Can't wait to see results, not that she itches or anything. Just for the coat. I'm obsessed with shiny hair! :)

I use it for flyaways also, but just use a TINY amount. I take a bit and rub it in my palms, then smooth my palms over the coat.

Ah, good idea! Colorado has NO humidity in winter & Lexie can get static even with argan oil.

What has the vet told you so far? Uni was itching really bad last year. Turned out it was a flea allergy, but she was always an itchy baby, even without fleas. I've since got her on a medicated shampoo, changed her out to a grain free kibble (and stopped giving her treats with grains also), plus no chicken. Never did find out what triggered her itches, but she's doing a lot better now. She would scratch till her skin was bright red and tore out her fur. :(

I give him about 1/8 teaspoon a day. He licks it right off the spoon. I'll use about 1/16 teaspoon on his skin after his bath, because it's really dry in my part of Texas, too.

I also use it on my cuticles, especially in winter.

He gave her meds because he said it was allergies, He did a skin scrape and examined her for fleas. When she was on the meds she wasnt itching as bad but she still had an itch. Some of her skin is a pink color and I dont want her to start scratching out her hair. I think I will be going to the store to get blue bufflo to see if this works better then SD.

Uni was given a steroid shot and sent home with low does steroid pills after her flea issue, but of course, you can't keep them on steroids forever. We never did do a skin scraping, my vet was sure it was more from fleas so we decided not to do it. Thankfully she is doing better on the grain free food. We are feeding Holistic Select and it's the new grain free version. I really hope the CO helps your baby. It's so frustrating when we want to help them out and nothing seems to help.

Lola has no allergies or skin conditions, but her hair is dry and could be shinier so I wanted to try some. At first she took it off the spoon but now will not and since I free feed her dry food not sure how I can get it into her. I tried warming the oil and spooning in in her mouth but that is messy and a hassle plus she does not like me doing that. So this honey idea is intriguing, I am assuming honey is ok, but I would be worried about giving her to much sugar every day.

Try using it to brush her teeth, Donna. It is actually the ONLY way Mandie will let me brush her teeth. I use at least a 1/8 tsp (probably a tad more). She thinks she's getting a treat so it's win/win :)

Oh ok, I thought "honey" was the name of the dog! You mean you are actually gonna put it on some honey? I read, but not sure if this is correct or not, that it's better to not give honey when the blood sugar is low, that karo or nutrical is better bc honey has bacteria in it. Not sure if this would make a difference when the pup is not sick though.

ETA I just checked out the OPs profile page and her yorkie's name is Honey.
