| Food & Treats We are feeding Dexter Canine Caviar puppy food, but he doesn't seem to like it THAT much Sometimes when he gets really hungry he would go and eat it straight up (whatever was left over from his feeding). We usually add some wet food or some other things (salmon, boiled egg, yogurt). We also bought some liver treats from Trader Joes (which is basically dehydrated liver with no additives) and we crush that into his food. Any suggestions how to make him eat his dry food straight up? Or should we just continue adding stuff to it? We don't mind, just want the best for our baby. |

YT 2000 Club Member | I add veggies, yogurt and Naturally Delish moist food to our dogs dry kibble. I guess, I like to add a little extra flavor and nutrition to their diet. If is up to you if you add extras!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I'd go easy on adding food to entice, you could add so much, you change the nutritional balance. I think you can sprinkle parmesan cheese on food, without adding many calories and most love the smell. Also, your dog may not be that hungry, let his appetite rule him, unless the vet says he's too thin.

Upsetting the nutritional balance is a concern with adding enticements. It can be hard on the kidneys and liver if the enticements make up more than 10 -20 percent of your pup's diet.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Is it just since switching him to CC that he's become picky? If yes, I'd switch him to a food he likes, if it were me....unless there is a real targeted need to have him on the CC. His tummy isn't bothering him is it? No gas or bad poos w/ CC? Like Nanc said, parm cheese (not the fresh kind, just the powdered kind in the can) can help.

| He's been a picky eater even before we switched him to CC. It doesn't seem like his tummy is bothering him. He poops normally (and finally its getting on somewhat of a schedule!). So I shouldn't add wet food (or other things) to his food? I feel bad just feeding him kibbles straight up, it can't be very delicious :-/ |

Yorkie Talker | Im having a similar situation with Jules (5.5 months old)... She's been eating dry food (Purina puppy) for the last 2 months (shes been eating that since before we got her), but then we had to moisten it to get her to eat at the end of those 2 months... but now its been a few days and she hasn't been eating her food dry or wet. Her appetite has gone down and she only ate 10% of what she used to eat... The odd thing is that she's still so energetic (runs around, jumps on and off the couch), poops and pees fine, and she'll eat her treats when shes given them for good behavior (pees/poop on pad). We tried switching food to Iams puppy (dry)... she'll eat a few pebbles, but most of the time she'll back away and run from her bowl as if she's terrified of the bowl. We tried changing bowls too haha What gives? |

Did you try the Parm yet? You could also try adding bits of cooked meat...but you just want to be a little careful in not adding too much. You could 'sprinkle' on some cooked meat so that it doesn't exceed ~15% of the total meal and see if it helps. You could try cottage cheese too; again, just not to exceed the 15%. You don't have to be as finicky if you're feeding him the canned dog food though, since that's already all balanced.

| Thank you everyone for advice! I add just a tiny bit of "enticeRS", but lately he has been eating dry kibble as well. I think my little baby is growing up |

| I cook a piece of chicken breast with a little white rice and put small quanties in baggies in the freezer. I add barely a half teaspoon of this to the dry food and both of my picky eaters woof the food right down. I only do this on their evening meal but prior to doing this no matter what I tried they would not eat after a week or so - problem solved. |
