And Lol, maybe that's why I remember it smelling heavyily, he only ever ate it with water and wet food on it.

| I don't think the Duck smells that bad- I thought it smelt better than Acana- for sure!! Pnut is almost done with his Open Sky, I think I will order another Open Sky- then maybe after that bag change it up! He is doing so good I don't want to start having issues !!

| Food is funny to me- like, I heard someone tell me they loved the smell of Fromm Game Bird and I hated it.. it's not even that it was strong, I just didn't care for it. Fromm Beef tho, I thought it smelled so good/fresh!! LoL ... everyone's crazy noses... not that I'm like, shoving kibble up my nose or anything... but when you first open the bag, there's always like that first smell. I hateed Acana Pacificia- ugh couldn't stand the fishy smell!

| YT 2000 Club Member | After reading all the good reviews, I just placed my first order of their special needs formula and a case of turkey off from chewy.com. Tuck has such a sensitive stomach, I was a little nervous to go grain free/higher protien and fat. Right now all of my dogs are on SD and doing very well except for they have stinky breath and a dog odor that even a bath doesnt touch. :/ It was quite pricy 55 bucks for a 12 pound bag and a case of cans but If it works and my dogs like it, its worth it.

So for us, I am just not sure the price is worth it. Quote:
I was paying 19.99 + tax for a 2.5 pound bag of Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier Puppy. I never even thought twice about Paying that much until I joined this Forum. LOL!! | |

I have a question tho, maybe one of you can answer it, because CC hasn't responded to my e-mail from over a month ago... I was curious about these formulas- Canine Caviar Holistic Large Breed Puppy Lamb Dry Dog Food Canine Caviar Holistic Puppy Chicken Grain-Free Dry Dog Food They are not on the CC site, but are available on Chewy.

| Here's a page I found on the Dogaware site with information about the requirements of phosphorus and protein in dogs...it may be helpful on both sides of the coin: Phosphorus and Protein in Dog Foods If I'm understnding the information correctly, according to this page it looks like even the Buffalo formula is within range of what the maximum amount should be. |

The buffalo formula is 1.5% MINIMUM. Meaning it could be a lot more. It also is 2.0% calcium. Wild Ocean is Calcium 2.4% min, Phosphorus 1.7% min. The other formulas are fine, the duck is low in ash. For example, fats on dog food labels are on a minimum basis. A food that reads 13% could actually go as high as 19%. If you check out a food like Innova, they provide the *full* nutrient analysis and give you minimums and maximums. A 1.5% or 1.6% *minimum* phosphorus content would make me extremely nervous in terms of kidney damage long-term. Fromm Adult Gold has an ash content of 5.62% on an as-is basis, with phosphorus at 1.03% as-is basis. Anything with a calcium/phos content of over 1.5% typically has very high ash as well.
