Peanut has a mass... 2 Attachment(s) Well we just got home from the vet.. I am at a loss.. You might have seen this thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-rib-cage.html I for sure thought that is what he has, everything that I have Googled lead me to believe this. My Vet is telling me something different. He said the "floating rib cage" is more to the side... He said he wants to go in and remove this and send it in to test it.. I don't know what to do, I guess I am scared and don't want to believe it is a mass and or tumor. If you look at the diagram the last rib isnt connected and kinda sticks up.. well if I lay Peanut down it pokes up right where that rib would be...?? I don't know I swear I have felt this before and I have brought it up to the vet and he said it was normal... My vet wasnt in today it was the fill in which I have seen him before- I almost want to get a 2nd opinion... but I would think my Vet knows what he is talking about right...??? Ughh I dont know today was a stressful day and then this topped it off!! Here are some pictures- what do you all think? |
I always go for a second opinion if I have any questeon in my mind that what we are looking at could possibly be something else....It doesnt mean you dont trust or believe your vet....it means you could never forgive yourself if you did something that had a negative outcome, and you did not look at from a different perspective or angle. I would go to a vet school for my second opinion......especially since YOUR vet said it was normal, and this "fill in" said it needed to come out and be tested..... |
I am so sorry to hear that Peanut has a mass. I hope it's benign & he'll be ok, but it will need to be tested to be sure. Momo's floating rib cage is on the left side (not under) & is the last rib bone, just like the pic you linked. It kinda sticks out on the side if he's lying down & I can feel it when I pick him up. When I touch it, it doesn't bother him at all. |
I would get a second opinion |
Sending Prayers for Peanut that it truly is just a floating rib and that everything is ok! |
I agreed second opinion is needed. |
I think it might be a umbilical hernia.. DH confirmend that we took him in to the vet and our vet said it was normal... umbilical hernia in dogs - Google Search |
Awe Deanna I know you are worried. I agree with everyone else either 2nd opinion or see your regular vet about it. I am sure Peanut is fine. Hugs to you all from Georgie and I. |
Has he had an xray? A xray will show ribs and rule out whether its a floating rib or not. |
Yes he has had Xrays in the past... The more I look into the umbilical hernia the more I think that is what it is.. I know for a fact now that( DH has told me)- we did take Peanut in and my vet said it was a umbilical hernia and we had no need to worry... I am still going to take him into my vet and tell him what he has already told me what it was and see what he says! |

If you look at this photo it looks like Peanuts, that one is a little bigger.. From what I am reading it says they come in all sizes. |
I would schedule for surgery and have it removed and probably not bother w/ a second opinion. |

I will loose my mind if I go see Dr Sandu and he doesn't remeber telling me it was nothing to worry about! I will for sure get a 3rd opinion! |
