Geno's morning at the vet

So I had a 2 threads before saying how weird Geno was acting. First he was being completely withdrawn and I scheduled a vet appt for the 18th. Well, recently, he had been coughing any time he got up and reversed sneezing. Of course, I was freaking out so I got him in at the vet this morning. Welp, turns out my baby has the onset of a collapsed trachea. I know it could be worse and many yorkies have this so I really am trying not to freak out too much.

Anyone have a yorkie with collapsed trachea? I was wondering what kind of things should I do differently with him now that we know - such as exercise or anything else that might help make it easier on him.

Oh my, at least you are getting some answers to his recent behavior, poor baby. Thank goodness you keep a good on eye him and his changes

That poor little guy. Glad you are observant. I hope the vet can give you more answers and recommendations what to do. Maybe a few here know some other things to share. Hugs

I wish I could be of help, but I don't know much about CT. Poor Geno

I donno if you remember my post a few months ago but they at first thought Callie had a respiratory infection and after medicine didn't work and they took closer look and turns out she was having CT problems. When it is causing probs they do steroids for her. Keeping them at the right weight is best. Regular walks are ok when its not really hot keeping them cool and unstressed is pretty important. If he wears a collar for tags make sure no one pulls on it ever and no one messes with his neck. I know it is scary when they get diagnosed with CT I was almost in tears when the vet said it and I kept thinking what did I do wrong. It took a very good friend on here to help me see I didn't and that she just has weak trachea muscles or whatever they are called. Hope he is doing ok.

I'm so sorry to hear this news... maybe why he's been a bit 'off' with the new pup... not feeling too well....

Basically, anything that sets him off to coughing... don't do. Lower environmental temps, limit excitement (if he coughs when greeting you), definitely a harness for walks (if he can tolerate walks), limit play, those kinds of things may help.

Omg you sound exactly like me when I found out! I keep thinking I did something wrong. Now I'm blaming our new pup for playing too rough with him and our groomers cause it started around then but it really could have been anything. And I've been sort of on edge anxious-wise today. Waiting for the vet to open to make an appt was making me get nervous then waiting for my bf to call me after the vet. My bf was like now don't freak out cause I know you will lol

Courtney, I commented on your other thread. Did the vet do anything other than a physical exam to come to this conclusion?

Does Geno have problems with physical exertion? Does he start wheezing or coughing?

I donno how Geno is but I know when Callie sees me upset she gets upset so try and stay calm as much a possible for the little guy and for you. Also I would make sure to ask the groomer not to put any thing around his neck.

One of my friends has a yorkie with that. She always says she has to keep pup calm. If it gets excited or too much running it has problems. It also is on steroids to help.

I answered you in the other thread but I'll copy and paste what I wrote so it's easier.

I'm not exactly sure what they did at the vet cause my bf took him but he said that they did a physical exam and were able to rule out an infection cause he's actually incredibly healthy. I know they didn't do an x-ray or anything. I'm actually kind of hoping it is really kennel cough cause my bf forgot to tell the vet that Geno was just at the groomers. Geno is vaccinated for it and I read online that it usually goes away on its own, but Geno isn't showing any signs of an infection. The only thing though is that Mia isn't showing any indication that she has caught it too which is weird cause I read it's highly contagious.

When Geno is playing is when it's the worse but he'll do it a little bit even when he gets up to move around. He still will try to be active but I've been keeping a close eye on his sister cause she can play a little rough with him so I've been trying to calm her down a little when it comes to him.

I'll definitely make sure to tell her. I don't think they do though since he is so little. I think they only use those for bigger dogs.

Geno is my little baby. Any time I'm upset, he's right there to help make things better. I am trying to keep strong for him though. I hate seeing him wheezing like he does but I just tell him that it's okay and your perfect He's been getting a billion times more loving from me recently. And I'm pretty sure he's loving it
