I know this is a very hard time for you, but I have some questions if you could answer for me... if you're not up to it, just skip this post...

What foods and treats were you feeding both your dogs?

I had 2 non-Yorkie Seniors pass close together about 3 years ago. That left me with just my Peek A Boo, 12 YO at the time. He became very withdrawn, to the point I became very concerned about his survival. Nothing I did would perk him up, he seemed so depressed and just laid around and slept all the time.

I decided to take him for a walk (mostly carried him), and when we got down the street the neighbor's Yorkies were out in their yard. He lifted his head to look, then let me know he wanted down. He showed so much interest in these dogs, I called DH and told him we were getting another Yorkie asap.

The funny part is he did not care for the first Yorkie we got, Tinkerbell, I think bc she is light blonde colored. She did bother him enough though and the competitiveness kicked in and he started eating so much better.

Then an opportunity came up to get one of the same coloring as him, and we added Sapphire to the mix. He did accept her with much more enthusiasm, they almost look like twins. He tolerates everything she does, he even lets her steal his food and his treats too!

Then we added Infinity, the Biewer, so Tinkerbell would have a playmate.

Tink and Peek are constantly bickering for the lead. They both want to boss the other two, who could really care less who's in charge.

But the important thing is the changes I've seen in Peek A Boo. The best description I can come up with is that he runs around here now like a puppy. He'll be 16 YO in December. He's always been people friendly, but not overly dog friendly, just tolerant, so I was leary getting another dog for him, but it gave him a new lease on life.

I don't know if getting another Yorkie is an option for you, but I felt I had to share my experiences with you.

Thank you for your sweet story, with a happy ending. Quite a brood you have now, and their antics must give you many a reason to smile.
Dogs do pine and get depressed, and Peek sure did it seems. Fancy Peek being fussy about the hair coloring! WTG Peek, running around like a pup now, at 16!
As for foods and treats, one has to be so careful these days. Anything made in China can poison dogs, and as sometimes food manufacturers do not specify the origin of ALL components, it is hard to know what you are getting even in USA foods.

I'm glad to share whatever I can share with you.

Both my girls were on homemade diets, after the dog food recalls began. My Vet said they were better fed than most people's children.

(And they ate better than my DH & I!)

No pet food, treats, etc. And they were both, incredibly healthy, all of their lives. They both came from excellent blood-lines.

All they needed was their annual check-ups. We stopped vaccinating years ago, after Kia had a near fatal reaction to a Rabies vaccine.

I think you have made an excellent point about withdrawal. Kia grieved, so severly the 1st 6 months after Sydney died.

She didn't remember a life without Sydney. Sydney was 2 years & 8 months old, when Kia joined our family at the age of 12 weeks. Sydney adopted Kia as her baby.

We had actually put a deposit on a puppy, about a month before Kia was diagnosed, but our Vet, whom we have known for many years, and knows and loves our girls very much, felt a new puppy would be too much stress for Kia.

Lately though, my DH said she has been barking at our neighbors Poodles. (She doesn't like them barking, and she is telling them to "Be quiet!" :p)

Is Peek a Boo, healthy?

Because Kia is definitely not healthy. If she were not in chronic renal failure, we would have added the puppy to her life.

Kathy, I forgot to thank you for sharing your story of Peek A Boo, and I think it is so wonderful that having other dogs in his life has given him a new lease on life.

Oh, how I wish Kia was NOT in chronic renal failure, because I would add a puppy to her life in a heartbeat!
