Found little pieces of sharp bones in kibble. I am feeding Natures Variety instinct duck and turkey with raw boost. When I give food to Sheldon I squeeze the raw boost between my fingers that way he doesn't pick just the raw boost. Well, while I was getting his food ready ( 1/4 cup) in his bowl I noticed something sharp between with fingers then I looked closely and I saw bigger piece of what I am pretty sure is bones. Is this normal? I didn't give the food to him, thank God I had a little bit of Fromm left so he ate that. Thanks so much! |
CRIES! Another food to watch! I guess nothing is truely safe! I'm glad you caught it before your baby ate it!! |
I would contact natures variety or the store you bought it from. Hopefully they will do something for you. |
Yikes! They've been having some issues lately it seems. They voluntarily recalled for a funky smell, but there's been other people complaining about a weird smell in their other formulas as well. |
Thanks everyone. I posted on their Facebook page and emailed them. One of my fb friend said raw boost has bones, as long that they are not cooked they should be if e. I'll keep you posted. I bought it at petco, they are really good about returns. Thanks again! |
Was it hard? Was it sharp? Some foods have some larger white pieces of ligaments and other connective tissue that are added to give strength to the animals connective tissue. I have seen it in various foods and when I have felt it the white pieces are soft and pliable. If they were hard and sharp I would contact the company. |
These are defenitely really hard and sharp. |

Yes, I still have the pieces, I was planing on taking a pic. Thanks! |
Put the pieces next to a dime or something for size reference...if it has something to do with that filter thingie Ann was referring to, they will be able to see right away if they have a way to judge the size compared to a dime.... |
I took a pic next to a thumb tack, the plain round flat kind. Didn't send them picture yet, I am waiting to hear back dpfrom them. |
Oh my. What is going on with these foods? Sigh.... So glad your baby didn't get hurt by this. Hopefully they will respond and give you some answers. |
Its supposed to have bones in it isnt it? My dogs eat a BARF diet. |

Have not heard back from them yet which is odd because they are pretty good about responding though. I also left a comment on their fb page, no answer still. The biggest bone is about 1/4 inch with sharp edges. Wish I could post a pic from my iPad. |
1/4" seems a little big to me. I don't know their specs though. Hopefully they will answer you soon. If not, I'd probably return the food. |

Thank you! I agree. I am very upset right now because i have send them 2 emails and one post on fb and they have not contacted me yet. |
I fed a Canned Dog food Before that had little bones in it they company was evangers and they said there was little bones but these just kinda crushed in your fingers. I would not feel comfortable with big sharp bones because what would be the difference between that or glass pieces going through the system |
Yoikes! What if your little guy had swallowed that whole?!?!?! Could it have speared the inside of his tummy or esophagus on the way down? That is just scary to me. |
Thanks for your concern ladies! They just emailed me an hour ago asking what kind and best by date of the food. They said to take the bag back to the store for a full refund. I'll be going to get another food tomorrow and I am having a really hard time finding a food that is grain/white potato/flaxseed free. Wish they sold the small bag of canine caviar here or online. |

I could buy you a 4.4lb bag here and ship it to you!!!! I see they sell the puppy and large breed in 4.4lb bags online..... On mrchewy Not sure why they don't sell the grain free I'm going to ask them on their Facebook page!! |
There is an idea! I wonder how much shipping would be. You are sooooo smart my friend! :) yeeeeee yeeeee yeeeeee yeeeeee, live action! Hahahaha |
I guess I didn't realize they were putting bone in kibble. Since kibble is cooked at very high temperatures bones would be dangerous if it is not ground to a very fine consistency. There is ground bone in Gracie's raw food but you cannot feel it as hard or sharp. |
