Heartworm Preventative Hi, i am new to yorkietalk so please forgive me if I have posted in the wrong place. I have an 8 mo old furbaby girl and I want to put her on an all in one preventative fr heartworms and fleas. I currently use one by mouth & one topical. My problem is she's just a lil over 4 lbs. Any suggestions?[/FONT] |

a good all in one is Revolution . you can buy a puppy dosage for 0 - 5 lbs. |
I would recommend Trifexis if she weighed 5 pounds. I think your best solution would be tell your vet you would like to use something that is for both instead of 2 different medications! Good luck! |
Revolution. |
I use interceptor...helps with hook, round and heartworms |
I don't really trust most of the topical or newer medicines for heartworm. Heartguard, Interceptor, or Iverhart are probably all I'd use. Some of those "all-in-one" have not protected against heartworms as much as they should. I've heard of a few dogs who got heartworm while on them. |
nothing is 100% so do what you think is best for your dog |
I use Revolution. 1 tube covers my 3 Yorkies and 1 Golden Retriever :) |

Excellent choice, I think. It also kills ear mites, which the others dont do, which is great if you go out in public places.....As with ANY of the topicals, just be sure and separate the hair so the solution goes onto the skin. I like to alternate the spot each month...no body has ever said this is necessary, and I have never read anything that said this was necessary....but I just like to alternate the specific spot I drop the med on...I just "draw" an imaginary line about 3-4 inches long, right along the spine, down the neck/shoulder area, between the shoulder blades, I start at the top of my line, which is a little further up the neck, then the next time, I go down about an inch down the spine, which is usually right between the shoulder blades, then I go an inch lower the next time....just something I do...... |

We switched a couple months ago as it is safee for epileptuc dogs but I took vet and breeder reccomendation In all fairness I didnt fully research it should I look into uts effectiveness more? |
Interceptor is what we use. I'd also use heartgard except in my epileptic dog. I wouldn't touch revolution. |

Revolution...as I'm looking at a 6 month bulk purchase for 4the dogs here...its definately not cheap, but that means little. |
I don't trust topical treatments for heart worms so I do interceptor for heart worms and then Advantix for fleas and ticks. |
