Boiled Chicken and......? I had dropped Peanut off at the vet bc of his itches and the vet confirmed it its food allergies. The Vet gave him 2 injections yesterday, and some bendadrly type pills to take home. Last night was the first night he didn't lick or itch!! It was very calming to see him like that!! I wont be getting his new food until Monday, I want to take him off the Acana so at least we can be a week ahead of ourselves. I am going to start tonight, I will boil some chicken for him, maybe add some peas- and some white rice??? Is there anything else I should add? This is just until Monday when I get his dry food- |
Do you know what in the current food is causing the reaction? Jada has her worst reactions to any type of chicken. She rips her hair out by the roots from digging in her head if she gets the tiniest amount of chicken or any kibble or treat that contains any chicken product. Thank goodness I figured it out a year or so ago. Poor baby was miserable. Since putting her on a Limited ingredient diet that is grain free and contains no chicken...no episodes (knock wood) Poor Peanut...I know from experience that allergies are so frustrating to figure out. |

The new food we ordered is Brothers Allergy Food, we get it Monday. It is a limited ingredient type food as well- I hope it works, it is so hard seeing them like that isnt it!! Like I said he didnt itch or bite, or lick nothing last night, it was so nice seeing that, granted he was on med's-. |
Better yet I will do ground Turkey!! That way I am covering all bases haha!! |

Boiled chicken was how I found out by accident that Jada reacted the worse to chicken. She had a tad of loose stools and I did chicken, rice and pumpkin...OMG the itching was so horrible and last year I mistakenly gave her a tiny bit of an organic beef treat (didn't read the label since it was beef) it contained chicken meal way down on the list of ingredients. I had to take her in for a shot and meds for that little mistake of mine:( |

Oh ok, that is a good food. Peanut however does not like Venison. I had bought that for him and he sniffed it and gave me a dirty look and walked away. I then tried him on a Venison treat and he wanted nothing to do with it. Haha!! I don’t understand what is up with these food companies, I wish they cared as much as we do about our pets!! Sweet potatoes are not like regular potatoes? I was thinking about doing Ground Turkey, I will fry it with a little coconut oil, then make Peas, and some carrots, also I was thinking of adding some sweet potatoes in place of rice.. |
Potatoes or brown /black rice would be better than white. White rice really isn't good for you. May taste good but turns straight into sugar. |
I was just reading that Acana has changed their ingredients and others have had reactions to it. That is really too bad. Some chicken meat has had antibiotics and other injections in the animals and it stays in the meat causing issues to some people and animals. White potatoes can also cause reactions. Corn is always a suspect. I have Gracie on grass fed free range meats. I think Acana used those sorts of meats but am unsure exactly what the changes they have made are. You might want to find out. Maybe you can trace what it causing Peanut to itch by seeing what they changed. |

Deboned beef, beef meal, green peas, deboned lamb, lamb meal, whitefish meal*, herring oil, field beans, red lentils, whole potato, salmon meal, deboned bison, beef liver, lamb liver, sun-cured alfalfa, pea fibre, whole apples, whole pears, sweet potato, whole pumpkin, butternut squash, parsnips, carrots, spinach greens, cranberries, blueberries, kelp, chicory root, juniper berries, angelica root, marigold flowers, sweet fennel, peppermint leaf, lavender, rosemary. Those are the ingredients. I am not sure if this is the “new” or “old… Whatever it is is isn’t working with him anymore- I can not stand to see my baby itchy any longer! |
