| ![]() My yorkie keeps peeing in her crate. Shes one year old.. and 6 lbs. Her crate isn't much bigger than her so I know she sleeps in it. How can I get this to stop? She isn't house trained yet. Is that the problem or could there be more to it?

| ![]() How long have you had your yorkie? Has she always peed in her crate? I think that there is something more going on. If you have ruled out any physical or medical problem by taking her to the vet and getting her tested, then I think it may be an anxiety issue. It may upset her to be in the crate. You can try get a Dog Phermone Diffuser to help her relax. You will also need to work with her on getting her to feel safe and secure in the crate. You may have to work with her in one hour increments until you have worked her up to 4 hours without an incident. If you work all day this may present a problem and you may have to use a crate/x-pen combination and work with her on the week-ends. If the crate is a cage like crate, covering the crate with a towel or blanket, may make her feel safer. You may need to start feeding her in the crate or at least put her food in the crate and let her walk in it to eat. This lets her know that good things happen in the crate and she is less likely to void where she knows she will eat. Whether a dog is house broken or not, they should be able to hold it in the crate for at least 4 hours, if not longer, especially at her age. |

| ![]() I've had her since she was 8 weeks old. She doesn't really have a problem with the crate. She only uses it at night.. or when i'm gone for a couple of hours during the day. I don't work.. so thats not a problem. When she is ready for bed, she goes in it her self and goes to sleep. I don't remember her doing this until a few months ago. Could it be that she sleeps on the same blanket and even after I wash it she still smells the urine and has the desire to go on it again?

You may also want to sanitize her crate too. She may have urine dried on the crate itself.

| ![]() A possible bladder or kidney infection is what came to my mind first, unless there has been a change in circumstance in your home in the past two months? Is she reacting to an emotional event??? another new pet, new person, family changes, etc.... |

| ![]() It works a little better for Wosie if I don't let her have any water after 9pm.
