morgan got neutered/full blood panel/baby teeth extracted/ microchipped for $250 |
Boy I really need to find another vet. I wish our vet wasn't charging so much. I just found out for a spay and dental at the same time it would cost $580. |
If Truffles wasn't in wellness care plan, spay was $650 plus baby teeth total $600's top to that spay.... crazy~!!! we are planning to drive few hours away to other vet for dental work for less $$ but hope it comes out natural before that :) |
Ellie's spay was about $150 but that office did lower cost s/n. Dentals start at $200. Baby toth extractions are probably a few dollars per tooth. higher prices don't always mean good care, but very low prices often mean corners are being cut. So while I think it is wise to make sure a vet is not really overcharging, there are so many other considerations. Is the best anesthesia being used, who is monitoring, how is your pet monitored, how closely are they watched in recovery, is the office up to date, etc. All these things cost lots of $$$. For instance, while not extremely important with baby teeth, when the mouth looks bad xrays are needed...dental xrays. A very large number of offices don't have this capability. It is expensive. Cutting corner by not having it. Using cheaper pre anesthetic sedation is another possible way for them to charge less. And at some low cost s/n clinics, vets are required to complete these surgeries within a set number of minutes..or at least that is what is preferred, Very bad idea. Sooo please everyone be careful.. |
Our local SPCA has a spay/neuter program where you pay based on your income. You fill out the form, provide proof of income, and they'll schedule an appointment for you for whichever local vet you choose that is participating in the program. We ended up paying $175 for 1 spay and 2 neuters, plus $50 a dog for 2 of them to get teeth pulled while they were under. You might want to check your local SPCA and see if you qualify. |
