Don't believe all of the negative comments about Hill's Science Diet. They are a very reputable company! They spend a lot of money on research and feeding trials making sure that their foods are good, healthy balanced diets for dogs and cats.

I also agree with your vet. Dogs don't starve themselves. I put the food down and if they do not eat it in about 10-15 minutes, I pick it up. Then they wait for the next feeding. They get the message and eat when they are hungry. People worry so much and offer other foods and that is what makes a picky eater.
I agree so much. I got a fussy older pup from Russia a couple of years ago. She didn't want to eat her kibble the breeder had her on. So I don't free feed. She had about 1o minutes to eat, and if she turned her nose up, up it went. By day 3 she was tucking in with gusto. How-ever as I homefeed my other two, about wk 2 she was refusing to eat; this time it was cause that homemade food smelt so gooodddd... So I started to wean her off kibble and onto the homemade diet.

I would at least try a higher quality food.
 
A little bag will cost you less than $15 bucks. Maybe your pooch is just tired of it. There are numerous brands of premium food that contain higher quality ingredients that science diet.

Did you even look at the food I suggested? Do you know anything about the company and what they do? There are quite a few dog foods being recalled right now because of quality control....people bought them because of the ingredients.

There are other companies who have good quality control and contain better ingredients as well.

I love the fact that SD has their own plant, and seems to have QC under control, but there ARE other options... they are not the only company out there.

I do now choose company first but that's not to say ingredient lists are not important either.

Though if I had to choose to feed a SD food, Ideal Balance would be it. Though I'm pretty certain Jackson has an intolerance to barley and wheat, as any time he's fed food with it, he tends to get soft poop and goopy eyes, so when I avoid them all stays clear so I couldn't feed it anyways.

i agree with ladyjane. That's why I never bash what someone is feeding their pets. What may be good for yours may not work for mine. My Kirby had stomach issues and each time the vet placed her on hills science temporarily. I know it worked. I tried to put Khloe on a few "good" foods and they gave her the runs. You probably need to find another food. Khloe ate the hills science while she had tummy issues but after that she lost interest. I did't realize it until I caught Kirby stealing her food.

Yup, when she is hungry she will eat. If you switch foods during a time when a pup is picky, it reinforces the behavior. But switching once may be ok.

She is really too oung to be on an adult food.
I'd try Royal Canin. It tends to be very palatable for them.

I agree there are other companies, but I try to keep my posts to what I have experience with. I also did not say ingredients are not important; but I do believe as you said, the company comes first...then the ingredients. That is how I chose Ideal Balance.

I just wanted to point out that Hill's is not a bad company and it was in response to the post that bashed Hill's and mentioned only ingredients.

I used to feed Deucy Science Diet...for over 5 years of his 6 year life so far...He was the same way...never really wanting to eat it. One day I actually read the label to see what was in it and OMG! No wonder!!! I've been feeding him Flint River kibble for about a month now and you would not believe the difference!!! He absolutely LOVES it and is finally putting on a little weight. I could always feel his backbone before but NOT NOW!!! I LOVE it! You can order the samples which are 7 packages for 4 dollars and NO shipping to see how your furball likes it. It is made with all HUMAN grade ingredients and they guarantee NO RECALLS ever. It's a miracle food that I'm SO glad I finally found.

Of course, I "hammer" Deucy's food until is is like a dust because he tends to not chew and swallow things whole. I can't say enough good things about Flint River food..Just google and see all the reviews, ingredients, etc.
