New dog and upset stomach Hi, I got Ellington home yesterday, so of course I have been expecting him to get the runs - with the stress and changes, as well as different food. This morning he was unable to wait till we went out, and pooed in our room. But I know that when humans have a bad belly they can't wait either! On our walk, he had a few more liquid stools - not quite stools, but gunky stuff. He isn't eating any breakfast, we have been up two hours now. Yesterday he wolfed his food down. I would presume that when they have bad bellies, like us, they don't feel like eating, but I just wanted to check how long I can let him not eat without worrying. I did try and find out what he had been eating, but he has had a few home changes in the last couple of weeks. |

I DON'T KNOW WHAT TYPE OF FOODS YOU HAVE AVAILABLE IN YOUR AREA BUT TRY TO FIND SOMETHING WITH LIMITED INGREDIENTS IF POSSIBLE THAT MAY HELP SETTLE HIS TUMMY |
He was only at the vet yesterday, so I am going to give him some time to settle in before I return. If he doesn't eat later, I will consider getting some chicken in, but right now I don't think he'd eat it. |

He seems ok.........its just odd that he wolfed his food last night, and now won't even have a treat, but I'll give him a few days to feel less confused. Thanks! |
Hope the little guy is doing better today. You mentioned he is on a new food, what was he eating before. Maybe you can feed him what he was on before and in a couple of weeks when he is settle you can slowly transition him to the new food. Good luck! |
I have given the food he had with his last owner, but his last owner only had him for a week, so I don't know what he had before. he has had a little something to eat....so I will keep an eye on what it looks like the other end! |
I am sorry to hear that Ellington is not feeling well. He's had a lot of changes recently, and you are probably right in that he needs some time to adjust. He is probably anxious too thinking that this new home won't be for long either. Lots of emotions going through that brain... Be patient and give him lots of love and I hope he feels better soon |
I would give chicken and rice. Diahrea for more than a couple days need a vet check. They can give a med to get it stopped |
If he was at the vet recently,maybe they could prescribe something to settle his tummy. Chic n rice is rarely turned down. After his tummy settles down you might start adding a little kibble back into his diet at a time until he adjusts to it. He has had a very stressful couple of days. Take getting him onto the new food slow. |
Thanks for taking the time to care about Ellington! He has eaten something now, I stopped him eating too much, and I will see what his poo is like later. Watch this space! |

He is 6kg, so not too tiny. This morning we woke up, went outside, and although it is still soft, it certainly was firmer and had more shape than yesterday. So I will see how the rest of the day goes. He doesn't seem interested at all in the kibble, so will go and get some other wet food, which he seems to prefer sadly. |
He wolfed down the wet food, but then had runny poo again. So we went to the vet. I have such lovely vets! The receptionist advised chicken and rice, and some probiotic. The vet then came out, and said don't bother yet with the probiotic, and just go for a carb diet for 24 hours. She said rice, pasta, bread, even toast with some marmite. Little and often. If he seems to be improving add in some protein, white fish or chicken. If not, bring him back tomorrow. I have given him a small bit of bread, and am boiling up some wholemeal rice. Hopefully it will help! The vet didn't seem to worried though, and said he has just had an upsetting time recently, and would probably just need to settle in and learn to relax again. |
