Taycie went through her first bag of RC Rabbit and Potato just fine. It was the second bag into it her symptoms started returning. That is when my vet decided it was time to try the hydrolized. For us, it was instant. Her symptoms were half what they were in 24 hours. Now looking back on that spring summer she is 110% different dog. It does take a long time to really work. I think she is actually 200% better then she was 9 months ago. I am sure you know this but, remember in super sensitive allergy dogs, any small thing can set them off. Make sure they are ONLY receiving the RX diet and absolutely nothing else. That is so important in these super sensitive ones... Flavored toothpastes, Flavored Heart worm Medications, can also set them off as well. Talk to your vet about this. There are other products he could recommend for you to try. Also check or your laundry detergent. If you are not using a free and clear version of something its worth a try. Many dogs also have a hard time with fabric softener. That might be something to look in to. I bug my vet all the time.. So don't worry:) Most of us here do! As far as meds go.. Benedryl did absolutely nothing for Taycie. Maybe she just doesn't respond to it. My vet switched meds for us and it worked. Have you tried using Medicated Oatmeal Shampoos? This has helped Taycie alot when she was so bad.. I hope you find what works |
Late posting but... Mickey's allergies are acting up (feet chewing-allergies/grass) so I thought I would share what I had our vet clarify. Mickey weighs 6 pds and she said give him 1/2 of a children's 5mg pill (equals 2.5 mg) or 1/4 of an adult 10mg zyrtex pill (equals2.5mg). |
Zyrtec Yes, Latte takes 1/4 of an adult Zyrtec. She's almost off the prednisone. My fingers are crossed. She has a thyroid supplement and the Zyrtec. Waiting for food allergy resuls and trying new Iams oat and kangaroo food. I can tell that the horrendous So Cal allergy season is almost over!! |
Allergies in in my furbaby are the worst! Makes me feel horrible! At least my children can tell me what is wrong. Mickey's allergies are seasonal. Usually when the family's allergies are acting up so do Mickey's. His vet also said to use Zyrtec. He likes the Children's flavored ones-LOL I am feeding him the Acana Duck/Pear Singles line this past 2 weeks and have noticed that his eyes are even less runny than on the Acana Lamb/Apple one... hmmm. Experiment on going-LOL |
Acana food Where do you buy it? online? |
A store near me carries it. Mr.Chewy carries it with reasonable shipping costs. Bag is same price I pay at store minus tax |
Thanks Maybe I can find it around here when the food allergy results come back. |
