Moses eats RC Yorkie. I switched him to the "mini" and he was nibbling his legs like crazy. So I went back to the RC Yorkie, and just started Primal raw yesterday. I fed him just raw in the morning, and raw mixed w/kibble in the evening today. I get so overwhelmed because there is so much information out there that conflicts, so I trust you guys more than the lady at the pet store, who told me to switch him cold turkey to the raw. He weighs 7lbs 8 oz and has seemed to be starving all day today...so I am not sure if he got enough. Those raw nuggets seem so little, so I worry he isnt' getting enough food. (but he is a little begger thanks to hubby) |
I don't like the idea of switching cold turkey. Mine would get sick. I would just mix it gradually. Wishing you the best of luck with the new food. Are you following the amount suggested for his size that is listed on the package? |
I would normally agree about cold turkey - but don't feed raw and kibble together! They digest at different rates and feeding together can cause big tummy troubles! Try kibble one meal and raw the next if you must - but never in the same meal! Doing this will cause the raw to be digested to slowly as kibble is digested much slower then raw, and can lead to some bad stomach upsets - raw is only safe when fed alone so a dogs' natural digestion can process it quickly instead of slowly as it does processes foods. |
I switched Riley Cold Turkey when I started feeding him raw... he never had any issues...... If anything maybe do raw one meal, kibble the next. Also Note what Primal talks about, about "Detoxification" on their website: Feeding, Transition and Safety for Raw Dog Food Diets Good Luck!! :) |
I've always switched cold turkey.... no problems!! I almost know right from the get-go if he's going to do okay on the food. When we started Acana lamb & apple, his poos were nice and firm and small from the first day of switching cold turkey. When we started Fromm, they were super soft and he was gassy after one meal (which is something that never happens to him) and we had tried Fromm in the past (2 bags, I think) with the same results so I guess I now know unfortunately Fromm doesn't work for him. :( But other things, such as coat, breath, energy, eye boogers, etc, either improve or decrease after a bag or two of the food.... |
