I'm sure their fish is fit for human consumption AT ONE TIME, but by the time it reaches Champion, is it still?
Makes no difference to me. Champion, BB, Evangers, and Merrick aren't on my list of things to feed. But I'm guessing some people would be really upset by what was found out about them.
BTW, I don't think whatever fish they are using would hurt a dog in itself. It's just that it seems very, very close to a by-product. | Oh, I'm not arguing with you, just posting the letter from Champion so one can read for themselves and decide. I don't find it to be a big enough issue to stop feeding it. But that's just my comfort level.
I really don't believe any dry dog kibble is going to have top notch meat sources, otherwise dog food would be insanely expensive and nobody would buy it. I'm not naive enough to think my dog is eating meat that would be sold at the local butcher through processed dry kibble.
I won't feed a lot of dog foods personally... including a ton of the so called "high quality" foods, like Merrick. Also wouldn't choose to feed Science Diet, Pedigree, esp. things like Beneful and Ol' Roy.
But I do trust Champion to a point, and choose to feed it at this point in time. We've had great luck with Acana and always wind up back with it after other foods, because well, he does best on it. And to be perfectly honest, I don't really trust very many dog companies at all. Definitely none 100%. But I'm not up for homecooking, either, so I take what I feel is the best for my dog at this point in time. I don't feel corn, soy, wheat, and sawdust is best for my dog - not to mention all those foods preserved with BHT and BHA, including menadione, etc. Not for me and my dog. But options are definitely becoming limited.
I actually really really prefer Fromm as a company but their foods did not seem to totally agree with my dog. Nothing terrible, but just extra itchiness and more tearing. Once we stopped it, itching stopped. Even Fromm used to make their canned food in China, nothing ever happened, but they did begin making them in the US after many requests to. So even that can be a bit questionable? But overall... I really like them the best in terms of dog food, just wish they made a simpler formula. |
