Poor Uni!! I hope she gets some relief soon. |
A while back NB changed their formula for sweet potato based food and added white potato. I noticed almost immediately that she began scratching like crazy. Maybe it's the white potato that she is allergic to. Have you tried the Brown Rice and Lamb? Even the Lamb eventually started causing a problem with Pebbles. Why does it have to be so hard to find a food that doesn't make them scratch and uncomfortable :( I just changed foods again and after an hour of looking at labels I picked a Merrick food. But that was out of desperation. It was the only food that I could find in the entire store that didn't have white potato as a top ingredient. It really is deceptive the NB called their Sweet Potato and ______ a LD food when there is also the white potatoes added. When I questioned the rep she told me it was a cost issue and it "shouldn't make a difference". Well it did....:( |

Oh no!!! Poor Uni. I hope you find a solution to her itchiness. |
Sounds like what happened to my Brandy. I switched her food and she itched constantly for a week. No bite marks so I was certain it was the food and changed her back. She was still scratching. Took her to the vet and she had mites  She was given a shot and 2 days later the scratching stopped. I have always used Revolution on her for flea treatment but it needed a prescription. Last month I bought something different at Petco, thinking it was basically the same. Huge mistake, it didn\'t control mites, which Revolution does. From now on I will only use Revolution. Good luck and hope it will be an easy problem to solve. |
I dunno about mites. Uni always has itched, she\'s just itching so much more now. Well see what the vet says tomorrow. :( |
Poor Uni:( I hope you are both able to find something and get some relief. I know how frustrating it can be finding a food that works. A RX diet has done wonders for Taycie. I was truly at my wits end trying to find something that would work. Taycie\'s face was a mess:( Along with other things. Hugs for sweet Uni |
I\'m so sorry to hear that Uni is so itchy. Poor thing. Hope the vet can help her. |
Some pups are allergic to Oatmeal based shampoos for itchy skin... Maybe ask the vet about doing some skin scrapings... although sometimes things are missed on scrapings... maybe tomorrow you\'ll get lucky.... |
Poor Uni! :( I know Gizmo has been itching up a storm lately becasue of the cold weather. I made instant oatmeal, stood him in the tub, and coated him with it. He looked like a cookie. I also put a little bit of Mink Oil in the warm warm and then rinsed off the oatmeal. I then bought some spray hyrdo cortizone by..Ah I think it\'s derma pet or something like that, and sprayed it over his coat when he got out. Needless to say he\'s not overly itching anymore and being his booger self. Hopefully it\'s just a mild food allergy, and little miss long-legged Uni will be back to her adorable self! *hugs* |
Ok guys back from the vet. I\'m posting from my phone so bear with me. After talking w the Dr at length we decided to do the steriod shot and antihistamines. Sent me home w mediated shampoo that I must bathe Uni 2x weekly, I was doing only once a week. Prednisone and chlorpheniramine tabs. Also got her annual bloodwork done, heartworm test, heartguard plus, and her nails did. LOL she was such a good girl. So far no scratching yet since she got the shot. Oh also that bump on her elbow, was a tick! Omg:eek: it was there a long time! I had no idea. Never seen one in real life before. :( So Dr wants to see her again in 3 wks to follow up. I really like this hospital. Dr stayed explaining options and everything for nearly an hour. For a bit over $300 not too bad. I felt like we were taken good care of. |
