New teacup owner :) I received my teacup yorkie 2 days ago..He is 9 weeks old and I cannot get him to drink water(out of a bowl).. I have been forcing a few drops here n there with my fingers.. Is it ok to add a small amount of water to their food (canned)? |

I think you can add a little caro light corn syrup to the water to entice them to drink. Just a little though. Good luck. |
Hi, You can also try a water bottle (bought new) from the pet store. A lot of people who get puppies too early (and those who don't) have had luck with those. :) My friend's little Maltese does WONDERFUL with these water bottles, and prefers them over a bowl. Just keep it clean and have fresh water in it at all times. http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_10151_1...0070926x00003a Additionally, there's no such thing as a teacup Yorkie, it is a marketing scheme used by (some) not-so-desirable breeders to make the puppy seem that it is worth more than others. A lot of times these puppies can be sickly or become sick later. A Yorkie is just a Yorkie. :) Lastly, a Yorkie really shouldn't leave his or her mommy until around 12 weeks. I discovered these things when I joined YorkieTalk, along with a whole host of other things....about a month ago. There's a LOT of information here, and LOTS of great people to help you gently along the way! I hope you stay! Welcome to YT:) |
Did you know there is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie? Whoever you got him from had no idea what they were doing. But congrats on you new little baby! :D |
I forgot to mention...if you get your puppy a water bottle like the one I linked above, ignore the part about cages and kennels, etc. It can also be hung from a wall with a few carefully placed screws and a holder with no sharp corners, so your puppy can't injure itself. For some help with this (if you decide to get one), please PM me and I'll inspect my friend's next time I visit to let you know how she has hers set up (it's in the kitchen on a wall above the floor). |
1 Attachment(s) Yes I know teacup is not an official breed :) but his size qualifies him to be called that to me..lol.. I love the site and def learning a lot here..He is a fiesty little guy and eating very well..It's just the water part I was worried about.. I was told by the breeder that she was letting him go at 9 weeks due to her health problems(she was going into the hospital) and she wanted him to go to a home that someone could give him the attention he needed..I do not work ,so I have all the time to care for him :) He goes to the vet on Monday to be checked out.. |

Hi, he is adorable! Is his name Kujo? (saw that in the picture title). If so, I think it is a great name (in an eery sort of way) lol! Please don't let the way some things are phrased here by some people scare you off. For the most part, everyone is here ONLY for the Yorkies and to help, and get help, with their furbutt best friends. Lastly, I would definitely suggest the water bottle for this little guy...at least for now. You can always slowly introduce the bowl later if you want. On the plus side, Madeline (friend's Maltese) doesn't have any chin hair staining because the water bottle is nice and sanitary, doesn't get her hair in it, etc. I almost got one for Bella, but decided not to since she already knows the bowl is where to drink from (didn't want to confuse her) =] |
Yes Morkie his name is Kujo, I let my son name him :) Thanks for the water bottle idea. When I first saw him and him being so tiny ,I was afraid she may have been lying about how old he was,I couldn't imagine something so tiny. He goes to the vet Monday, but what can I look for myself to determine roughly how old he is?..He is very active, chewing and tugging and running all over,so to me he acts older than he looks. I have never owned this small of a dog and just wondering. |
1 Attachment(s) Better picture of him |
So cute! :) |

Judging by pictures only, he looks to be more like 7-8 weeks to me, but I'm not a pro. Either way he is adorable and I am sure you will take excellent care of him. I'm glad you're taking him to the vet for a wellness exam, shots, etc. |
Welcome and congrats on your new baby!! |
aww, your new baby is so cute. if your baby is eating wet food he is at least getting some water but i think adding a little extra warm water is a good idea. good luck at your vet appt.. |
