Ok, help ladies. Mikki does not like the Sierra Mountain or the Pacific Stream. Both of these are the ones that have the 25% protein. She loved the Bison and Venison one. Which has the higher protein. 32% or 37%? I don't remember. So, I am gathering that the higher protein is not good for our pups. Can anyone else recommend a food that their pup likes? I am trying to fnd it locally. I don't want to have to order it. Any help appreciated! | Is there a reason you're staying away from 32% protein? It's not really all that high. I think anything 39% and up may be unnecessary in a dry dog kibble. But 32% is not that high - you'll find a lot of the Yorkie formulas that brands like RC make, etc, are in the high 20's and low 30's as far as protein goes.
Jackson does best on grainfree, I've found out recently. I don't think it's all grains but I'm pretty certain barley and millet gave him the itchies and he started having some hair easily falling out (no bald spots or anything extreme, but when I would give him a bath, I'd have hair on my hands, or I could easily pull some out while petting him). Since being back on Acana for close to 2 months now, it completely went away. Acana has a new line that should be out very soon, it contains one or two grains - oat, and something else... and it's a simpler formula. The new ones are Chicken and Burbank Potato, Duck and Bartlett Pear and Lamb and Apple - now being sold in the US. I'll be trying them out!
Fromm also just made two new grainfrees - Grain-Free Game Bird Recipe dog food - Fromm Family Foods Grain-Free Salmon Tunalini dog food - Fromm Family Foods but their grain inclusive lines are great too - I think they just made Jackson itch. :( But as a company, I LOVE Fromm.
Also, I am sure Now! and Go! would have options if you prefer the lower protein, but still wanna stay grain-free. http://www.petcurean.com/for-dogs/now-fresh/ |
