The pain meds do say as needed. I did give him half of one. He also got his last shots today and he is really sore. He won't let us pick him up. He probably is sore from his shots poor little thing. Did they tell you what grade LP he has?

No she said that it better to get it fixed early than to wait till its really gets bad. He has started to play a little. I think he is starting to feel better. Yea

They normally rate them from 1-4 and a 1 and possibly a 2 really don't require surgery where a 3 and a 4 do. I would really get a second opinion from an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in orthopedic rather then a normal vet.

I would not be concerned about having the knee surgery & the neuter done at the same time as someone else stated the neuter takes less the 10 min, well it actually takes less then 5 min. Overall a neuter takes less then 10 min from start to finish & that's including anaesthesia administration and the surgery prep/scrub & the actual snip only takes about 1 min & sutures another couple of seconds. I would do them both at the same time as I would Not want to risk anaesthesia twice for something as simple as a neuter.
My guy had his LP surgery & neuter at the same time 2 yrs ago & did just fine.

The probablem with that is then the regular vet would be doing the LP surgery and I would never feel comfortable letting a vet who did not specialize in orthapedics cut on my dogs bone.

My Ortho did Ben Beans neuter. I can't swear to it but I think they all will do a neuter. I would think if they can do an LP surgery then they sure should be able to do a neuter.

Sorry I didn't even think about the orthopedic surgeon doing the neuter ugh my brain isn't working well still tired from all the festivities of Christmas lol.

Thanks everyone, my little guy is running playing this morning. He is feeling really good. The shots done him in yesterday. He acts like his knee don't even bother him. She did push it back in place. My vet said that they do alot of knee surgery on little dogs. They say that it is so common. She said she would do the neutering and the other doctor would do the knee. We see both of them with our dogs. I am still thinking of getting another opinion. I wanted to wait till the 22nd. Because he will be 6 months old. They were going to check his teeth then to see if he needed any pulled. That was before his knee started acting up tho.

I am glad he is feeling better. I still think it is kinda weird they didn't tell you what grade it was.

Thanks, I talked to the other vet that is in with the one that i saw. He is the one that does the knee surgery. He said that he wanted me to wait a month and recheck him. He said sometimes they will get better or even out grow this. I don't really know about that. He has been doing really good now. Not limping as much. Sometimes none. I am so glad he is back to his self.

Is he an orthopedic surgeon?

I don't know I didn't ask. Only a vet I think. I am not sure if it is any in our area.

I am not sure of the best way to find an orthopedic surgeon maybe google but I have no idea. It is best before you let anyone cut on his little knee that you have an orthopedic surgeon look at it because they know better about the LP then just a regular vet. I certainly would have a specialist if I was having knee problems instead of having my regular doctor try to diagnose and take care of it

This vet is telling you straight. Are you sure it is a luxated patella, could even be a ligament pull.

If your pup has started standing on or walking on the leg already..it's a good chance it'll heal without surgery.

LP surgery is a high dollar.. high profit ( for the Vet) procedure. I say take a conservative approach. Give it a couple of weeks..it can't hurt.
