Sadie is at 60 days gestation today. I have a ? I am ready for the birth but am unsure about aspirating. I have only done this on my daughter before she leaned to blow her nose. Does this need to be done on every pup? When? How? Through nose or throat or both? Please, any info is greatly appreciated. I am so nervous. I have nevered delivered a litter on my own. Only helped when I was teenager, as my parents raised Chihuahua's. And I don't recall my father ever aspirating. Of course that was 15 years ago and can't remember all that anyway. Thanks for your time. |
this was an excellent site that was posted i think yesterday. i spent a lot of time on there. and it has a page for asperating. see if this helps ya. i wish you luck i am right behind ya in your experiences (or shall i say inexperiences). guish i am anxious to see how you do. fill me in. i'll be watching. http://www.debbiejensen.com/aspirate.html |
I was on that site all evening. It is really a good site too. Lots of information. I read on aspiration but am still not sure. Does anyone have any experience with it? |
gestation No problem..don't worry. You can take it in both hands and swing it down through your legs, that draws out any fluid. Hold the pup with the head away from you. You can use a baby nose syringe..but I never have..mommy licks and rolls them around, they scream and the fliud comes out fine. It is not quite the same as a human baby aspirating..the mommie Yorkie roughs them up and moves them around and they cry. |
yes that is so true... just trust in your dog cus her motherly instinct will kick in... i have a siberian husky that just gave birth 2 weeks ago and OMG... i'm so proud of her.. she know just exactly what to do.. i was there all night with her to assist but most of the time she doesn't need any help from me....she just want me to be there with her for comfort... and yours will too... good luck |
Sadie is pushing like she is gonna have a major BM. She is in her welping box and lifts her tail and strains with every few minutes. Not really panting though. Not sure what to think, but they are getting harder . I have not seen any water sack as of yet and that worries me. |
look for restlessness.. and when she lift her tails more frequent...is there a bulge between her butt hole and her vulva??? is she digging alot??? watch for a little squirt of greenish water... how big is she???? |
It's a girl! 4.3/8 oz. She squirt that green water and with a few pushes she was out. I think she ate the placenta. She was busy back there so long while we tied and cut. Now there is nothing hanging out. She cleaned up. |
so you only have one in this litter?? is this her first litter?? how big is the mom??? why you have to cut and tie the cord??? when my husky had her litter.. she just ate everything including the cord and a couple of days later the cord dries up and fall off... congrats!! |
It's a boy. It looks as if he is trouble breathing. I tried the swing thing but don't know if I did it right. I could be me but seems to be gasping a bit. What should I do. |
have you aspirate him yet??? try that... 1 girl, 1 boy so far.. wow... how many you expecting?? |
How do you know if they are breathing ok, or not getting enough O2? What to look for. I read it but some how I have forgotten most everything. He was born at 9:55 am. |
His tongue is pink so I think he is fine. He ate just a bit and is now sleeping with his sister. We had a Xray a week ago and they saw maybe 5. So there is still some to go. |
Congrats... have confidence in the mom she will do it all if you let her, watch her closely but let her do what she instinctively will do. Most moms will take care of everything including the cord. If she is stressing then give her some assistance. The less we intervene IMHO the better mom she will become. all the best to your new family |
yes femin is correct...let the mom handle it all... so how big is the mom?? 4-5 lbs??? |

WOW! A birth right here on the forum. Congratulation on the arrival of your babies. Have you talked to your vet about Calcium Tablets or something similar, My vet said this was a crucial time for the moms as well while they are giving milk. Again, CONGRATS! |
IMHO to suppliment I recommend Goats milk daily, never cows milk they cant digest it, also if you do a calcium tablet you have a chance of over doing the calcium so opt the natural way "the goats milk" |
where can I buy goat milk at?? walmart?? you give them to the mom or the pups???? |
Goats milk is found at most health food stores another option is cottage cheese daily (up to weaning) although mine hate it...So go for the goat:) |
I have so many people always offering advise to me and they are usually conflicting so I guess my advise is to take the advise of your vet. I too have heard some don't like to use calcium tablets but I really trust my vet. |
Sadie delivered her 3rd baby Yorkie at 1 Pm and we are still here waiting another. Thats one female and 2 males so far. All are doing well. :) |

Wow I can't believe you took time out to post her success as it happened. Any more pups???? Wonderful, just wonderful!! |
:birthday2 Congratulations on the new babies. Mommy :good job: :bravo: |
No more, but the xray showed 4-5. How long should we wait for another. I can feel at least one in there. She is no longer in labor. She does pant from time to time but it has been hours since the last pup was born. Is this unusual? :( |
Pat would know I'd think. Hopefully everything is okay. Keep us updated if you have time, I'm sure you must be busy. |
1 Attachment(s) Ok, I just came from the ER and she is great. They were all born and she had 3. the xray was wrong. The ER vet loved her and her pups. Thanks for all the support. :D |
CONGRATULATIONS!!! Good job, Sadie & Mom!!! Keep us updated!! ;) :good job: |
