Yorkie pregnancy question Is it possible for a yorkie not to show very much during their pregnancy? I am being given pick of my granmother-in-laws next litter, and when I saw her yorkie today she didnt look very pregnant. She has swollen nips, and she has gained some weight, but she just doesnt have a huge belly. She was roughly 5lbs before breeding (male is just under 4lbs) she is suppose to be 56 days. I am just afraid she is going through a false pregnancy or something. I dont want to get my hopes up, becauseshe will not be having another litter... |
Awwww! You sound all worried and disappointed! :) Presumably, at this stage, she's been checked out by her Vet? What did she/he say? All I can tell you is Harry's mum - when she was expecting Harry plus 2 others - was fairly big (as Yorkies go!). For her next litter, she only had 1 puppy - and that time she hardly showed at all. So it really does depend on the individual dog, and how many she's having :aimeeyork etc. Sally + Harry x |
When our Zoee was pregnant, she didn't really look how we humans look when we're pregnant. It was very difficult to tell she was pregnant. We event went to the vet and told us that he couldn't tell if she was pregnant twice (He did seem as if he was a recently graduated vet MD and hadn't had so much experience). But it did take about 55-60 days for her to have the little puppies. Once she starts circling and starts looking for a place to "nest" you will know its almost time for the puppies to be born. Swollen nipples are definitely a sign that she is pregnant and going to be giving birth soon. Our zoee weighs about 7 pounds. While pregnant, her weight fluctuated. She gained weight, but then lost it so we weren't sure if she really was pregnant. Once the puppies are born, they are so small! but remember the mom has to feed the puppies her milk for about 2 months |
Thank you both for your replies.. i do know she is working with a vet, but didnt ask details (I dont personally get to talk to her often) I am just so nervouus. I finally have something to look forward to this year, and don't want to end up disappointed again. My daughter was stillborn in January, and have had a rough time since. When my grandmother-in-law suprised me with this, it gave me something positive to look forward to, because I have wanted a Yorkie for a very long time... |
a pregnant dog should be due for x rays after day 57, so she will know for sure in the next few days, I am so sorry for your loss, and best of luck with your mom's in law litter..:) |
Can't wait to see pics! |
Well, I was informed today that her yorkie had a false pregnancy. I am crying my eyes out. This was the first thing in months that I have been able to look forward to, only to have my heart broken again. I think its time for me to quit looking forward to things. |
I am so sorry for your loss. You do sound as though you do need a little life to bring your spirits up. Have you thought of looking into rescuing a Yorkie? You would then be helping a soul in need of love and at the same time give yourself a lift. Hang in there and think about sharing the love you have with a fur baby who is already looking for someone to love. |

When I got home from the Army 2 yrs ago my stepfather killed himself and it hit me hard. I delveloped PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) and just gave up on being happy. I ended up walking into a pet store that sold A LOT of yorkies and went straight to my little man. I often think he was meant to be. He's the light of my life and he turned everything around for me. Good luck in your search, and keep us posted. :) |
I would love to adopt, and have had my eye open for a yorkie for adoption for years, and have yet to come across one. Seems like breeders here are all byb or a puppy mill in the making, who all over charge. Oh well, guess it wasnt meant to be. |
RESCUE ADOPT! :o) |
I agree! I'm always on petfinder.com looking for another baby. My husband would drop kick me if I brought one home. But I can always dream! |

LMBO! Actually, he's short! :p I'm 6'1 and he's only about 5'10. Normally I wouldn't go for little guys, but he can pick my big back end up. I call it Jesus strength! But regardless of height, I think he could still punt me a few yards! That'll leave you all with an interesting mental image!:p |

I think my bella might be pregnant?? well i read the thread and it sounds like if she might in deed be pregnant? I'm really happy if she is and scared at the same time for her. her nipples are really hard but she is not showing yet. she is being more careful by not jumping on the couch as much as she used to. so that's what makes me think she is i'm on a budget and can't take her to the vet right now.but i asked a well known breeder here in texas and he told me they are pregnant for 65 days and he would help me with the delivery if she is i feel so much better any suggestions??? |

You're on a budget yet you let your Yorkie get pregnant? What if she needs a C-section??? Will you have the budget then?? Before I get myself banned, I'm done with this thread. Sounds like every other person that wants to make money off their dog despite the pup's health. |

Veterinary care, especially since you are now a breeder...isn't something that doesn't fit into the budget-it's a necessity...or you can't afford your dog...period.:( |
Pregnant???? well I have given this a lot of thought weather to even respond to my own thread I had written my comment a while ago and much to my surprised I was not able to upload it so I'm going to upload this comment to see if it works this time before i respond to your questions |
Pregnant???? well it worked so hear goes the only reason I signed on to YT was because I thought this could be a place to meet and make friends and ask questions and help each other out, but one thing I have noticed is that if you say something people don't like they automatically jump you. now I'm not trying to make excuses for myself and I may be wrong for what I'm doing. |
Pregnant???? I guess I should of explained my situation before I started asking questions. yes bella was in heat yes she was with a male yorkie that is 4pds and yes I took her took her with a reputable breeder her in texas that knows what they are doing I would never do this by myself. |
Pregnant???? all I want is to have a puppie from bella and no I'm not going to sell her puppies I'm not in it for the money like everyone assumes! some of my family members will be getting the puppies they will stay in the family where we can keep tabs on them and see them when ever they want. |
Pregnant???? when I said I didn't have it in my budget this month was because of Christmas I kind of went over board on gifts, but never in my mind would I ever consider doing this if I couldn't afford this. Of course I will be taking her to the vet and the people helping me will be there every step of the way |
Pregnant???? one thing that I really want you to know is that I love my Bella with all my heart!!!! you don't know how much I would never put her in any danger I will have the best people with me through the whole thing and I was really hurt by the comments of being money hungry and not being able to afford her! I felt I got jumped right away before letting me respond. well I bet I might get more negative post but I feel better now letting you know my side and my feelings. again I'm not in it for the money all I want is to give my family members something to love like the way I love my Bella::animal-pa |

Pregnant???? well the male weighs 4pds. I have seen his papers and also have been able to see some of his past litters the person who will be helping me knows what he's doing and will be helping me every step of the way. my family members can afford a dog if they wanted to, but when they found out Bella could be pregnant they decided to wait. I also love the idea that the puppies will be going to a home that they will be well taken care of, and I will be able to watch them grow!!!!:p |
