Good to know! I really did not realize that.

Are ALL foods manufactured there considered a Diamond product? Chicken Soup, etc?

Ellie May 08-16-2011 12:26 PM

I doubt it. I'd have to see the list. Isn't NB made there now? They emailed me differently. And Blue emailed differently. Diamond staff is TOTW staff. It's a Diamond line. There isn't really anything wrong with that, but Diamond uses all kinds of ingredients that people on YT don't like just like SD does. So unless it's just the soy stopping people from liking Nature's Best, then I really don't get this.

Britster 08-16-2011 12:34 PM

I never said I had anything against Nature's Best personally. I've never looked into it nor do I know anything about it. I've never even said I'm fully against SD. Not sure where the idea came up that people had a problem w/ Nature's Best?

But, I believe NB is made at C.J. Food Inc. Also, last I checked, Merrick and Evangers are the only canned food makers in the industry that make their own canned. Every other canned food is outsourced. And we all know the troubles those two companies have had.

Yes, NB is manufactured there, but is not a Diamond product.

Here are the Diamond products: Trademarks of SCHELL & KAMPETER, INC. (39 trademarks)

Anyways, I think I'm out on the food discussions in this forum these days. It's fun to have some debates but I'm pretty sure we all have already agreed to disagree in the past. And it seems the H&D section of the forum doesn't get as many visitors anymore and there's pretty much a few posters (us, lol) monopolizing the food threads. So I think I'm going to just let others decide for themselves.

Ellie May 08-16-2011 12:41 PM

I don't have any idea who does and doesn't like it, but lots of people here are against soy, and so would not recommend it. That is absolutely fine, just wondering if that is the only thing about it bothering people. Yup, I read lots of "SD - that is just garbage" posts.

Also seen it totally bashed on, um,....another forum. That's also fine. We all have our own opinions. Just wondering if soy is the only thing people hate about it (not you, but you in general). I never see it recommended by those who recommend similar foods and I can only assume that it is because of the soy or because of the name on the bad, but I guess that is just an assumption. Curious...

I think it good to share our experiences with foods. If Joey ever becomes allergic to his food, I'll be scouring the diet section for foods other people are happy with. I chose my food originally because lots of people here said that their dogs did well on it. If your happy with a food and your dog has been doing well on it, I think it’s good that you tell others who inquire about a product. The problems I see, is that many people recommend a product, when they haven’t even been using it that long, I mean, I’ve read about people raving about some new food after using it for a week, and how the hair is so much silkier, etc. and that doesn’t even make sense! I also think another problem is telling someone that their food is “garbage”. Whether it an inexpensive grocery store brand, raw, or anything else, we shouldn’t call someone else’s choice “garbage”. We use to have lots of food snobs who insinuated that if you’re not feeding xyz, you don’t love your dog. This isn’t happening so much, and I think it’s great. I use RC, but I’ve always hated to tell anyone about it, even when people wrote a thread and asked if people were using it, I knew I’d get so much criticism for using it. I think I should be able to tell someone Joey’s doing great on it, without all the backlash. I'm still kind of ticked at myself for trying a "higher rated" food and having all those eye tearing problems with Joey, and that took a long time to completely eliminate! I would have never even tried the food if I hadn't read a hundred times how crappy RC was. Then I found out most people giving advice hadn't had any nutrition classes! So I’m much more careful now, where I get my advice, but lol, I still wish RC had 5 stars!

I don't completely dismiss anecdotal evidence when considering products. There is one popular holistic food brand that seems to be tied to gastro issues. Haven't seen any threads lately, but for awhile it seemed like a thread each day about a sick dog and this was the food the dog was eating.

I do think there is too much of a herd mentality when it comes to food, and I got caught up in it too. One person announces a brand is great and everyone flocks to it. After messing around with a couple of brands, I went back to what works for us and we are sticking with it until it stops working.

I meant to add that I agree with Nancy's post.:thumbup:

I posted awhile ago how the wilderness formula for BB was causing Gizmo terrible gas and pooping problems.

I agree, what may work for my dog, won't work for you. All trial and error. I've said it before, Orijen is supposed to be God's gift to holistic. I bought it for Gizmo and he was so, so, so sick for a few days.

All depends on the dog.

IMO, there are so many food threads here and plenty of room for everyone to..discuss what is on their mind. It gets a bit redundant, but I really enjoy the topic, so not something I mind (actually veterinary nutrition is one of my thoughts for a career).

I "try" to avoid the threads where people are just wanting to review how good a food is working for them. Very glad to hear it and no desire to start debates on those threads (of course sometimes it just happens though). On threads with questions about the best food, if xyz company is okay, etc., I don't see a problem with having a chat.

OH Taryn! I NEVER meant to imply that a size 12 is bad! I am a size 10 myself and do have size 12s that fit. I just meant to say there is nothing gross or unhealthy about being a size 2 if it's done in a healthy way! :)

nychelse 08-17-2011 04:38 AM

a few other yorkie owners I know recommended this brand. I'm not so sure, but I will just see what works for my buy first I think since everyone has different appetites and allergies... just like humans... we don't all have the same diet or respond the same to food. Some people eat fatty stuff all day and don't gain an ounce other people eat that and have serious health issues because of it...

just saying...
