Taste of the Wild food? My picky eater (so far today) loves TOTW canned food. I had bought a few different cans of high quality foods that I've heard of and today was teh day to try TOTW. He loves it! If he continues to love it I'll keep buying it for him. I know it's grain free but what else about it is desirable? The quality of the meats? I can't find much info out on the web about it, other than stores online selling it. Can someone point me to an article or something that will explain why it's good? Thanks! :) |

I actually just found that thanks though. :) It feels good knowing that my picky yorkie seems to really like food that's healthy for him. Only time will tell though. I may have to periodically rotate TOTW canned foods as it seems he gets bored of the flavor of foods after a few days. Thanks again! |
No problem! I actually was trying to research brands myself only a couple days ago and came across that site. I found it helpful, so I just tried to find it again to post. The lady who owns a pet boutique in our town only carries Taste of the Wild and a brand called Canidae. If you need to switch up your wet food later, perhaps that would be a good choice! Good luck! |
Cool thanks! |
I've been feeding TOTW Sierra Mountain, for... maybe a month now? We love it here. Jackson's always been pretty picky. But he's been pooping a lot less on this food and his poo's are more solid. He also loves the taste! I was feeding Acana for a while prior and I probably will still keep it in the rotation, as he does well on that too. But TOTW has been his favorite taste-wise and it's also been the "best" his poop has been ;) |
That's great! Today is the 3rd day of feeding my baby the Pacific Stream formula canned food. I can't attest to his poop because I don't walk him (physical disability) my dad does. I'll ask him. He seems to be doing fine on the food. It hasn't given him the runs or anything, no vomiting either so that's good. I'm so happy he's eating a healthy higher quality food. We just went out and bought 3 more cans of the Pacific Stream and one of Prairie and one of Wetlands. They didn't have the Sierra kind in a can at that store. They did have huge bags of 2 kinds of the kibble that I saw. They also had EVO and Acana sample bags up front. But it seems Bentley doesn't like any kibble, so we will quit trying to feed it to him. But now that he's eating canned food (the ONLY canned food he'll eat that we've tried) I'm not going to push kibble. We'll leave it down for him though in case he wants to snack on it during the day or night. |
My two dogs eat the TOTW pacific stream kibble and do great on it. I bought a can of the same and was glad they loved it and had no digestive problems with it. It was a little smelly but... maybe that's what they liked.I've been buying it online- the prices are great, no shipping charges and better prices than I can get locally! |
ritapatt, Where do you find online stores without shipping charges?? I would buy it online if there were no shipping fees. Is it cheaper than in pet stores per can? |
I have used a couple different companies, whoever seems to have the best deal. Right now PetCareRX has great specials. The TOTW cans are 22.79 for 12 cans =$1.90 per can. Most stores around here are 2.29 +tax. The free delivery makes it worth it! Make sure you sign up online first so they have enough time to send you a few "new customer" offers... |
That sounds like a great deal! I don't remember how much we paid per can, I'm guessing $2.20 or so but I'll check the receipt if I can find it. I'll talk to the money-makers in teh house (my parents) and see if they might be willing to order online. But first we need to make sure Bentley will actually eat the food long-term and not become bored with it and stop eating it. Today Bentley didn't eat but about half of what I put down, which was about 1/2 cup total. I hope he isn't getting bored with it already. I'll feed the same fish kind tomorrow and see if he eats it. Maybe today was just an off day for him. |
Ziva is 2 years and 7 pounds. She really is not that big of an eater, she eats 1/3 c of kibble and less than 1 Tbsp of wet type food per day,not to many treats either. Except for swimming every few days(when she begs for more food) she really doesn't do much in the summertime -it's way to hot here, so she is not very active. She looks very healthy and holds her weight so I don't worry about whether she eats all her food from day to day- I'm sure she gets tired of the same food but she gives in and eats when she is hungry.I sneak her leftovers to the big dog and start fresh every day. |
So far my dog is eating 1/2 cup a day of the canned TOTW. 1/4 in the morning and 1/4 in the evening. I'm happy with that seeing as he's not active at all. Haha. Wow 1/3 cup? That seems so little! But then again kibble is more concentrated than canned (I think). I'm glad it works for your baby. Thanks for letting me know how much she's eating. It gives me an idea of how much I should be feeding. I know Bentley is a little overweight, not much though so I hope that he'll lose about a half of a pound or so. At last weighing he was 7.8 pounds. He looked great at around 7 pounds. I've beat it into my parents heads that they really need to cut back on giving him their food. And I also started cutting the greenies in half and give him only 1/2 a day instead of one full one. |
TOTW sent me 4 sample size bags (Sierra Mtn). Looks good and I may rotate to try it when this bag of Acana runs out more. |
TOTW is sending me a sample but the vet that answered my email thought it was for a cat Haha, although I do have a cat it's not for her, it's for my yorkie. :P So I replied back as soon as I could (just got home in fact) and told her it is for my dog. Hopefully they won't send out cat food, although I'd be willing to give it to my cat. But she has a very sensitive stomach and so far has done well on *ack* Science Diet Senior formula. I wonder if switching her to a grain free food will fix her stomach upsets... Hmmmmmm. She is accustomed to SD I don't want to upset her stomach. I might mix it in a little with her food and see how she does. |
TOTW sent me nine 6oz sample bags of each flavors. I can't wait to test them out. I was shocked they sent so many ... I sent a detailed email explaining my Kody's eating habits and then I got a response email and they sent the samples right out by UPS. I sure hope he likes it, it would be much cheaper than the Royal Canine Yorkie - which he's currently eating. Wellness didn't cut for him - he loved it - but it gave him the runs. Still have over a half bag left of that. |
That is so nice TOTW sent plenty enough to make sure before you invest in a bag.The kibble size is larger that RC but the flatness of it makes it easy for Ziva to crunch. If you switch I think you will be surprised at how shiny your pup will be in just a few months. My wheaten terriers coat is as nice as when she was young and her digestive problems are gone! |

Oh wow that's a lot of free food! TOTW is sending me bags, too. Cool! My dog is picky about the size of food pieces so hopefully he'll not have a problem with them. |
I got the samples from TOTW. My baby wants nothing to do with the High Prairie kibble. I will pick it up soon and put down the Pacific Stream. I am feeding him the canned food though, just putting down the kibble as a snack if he wants it. I thought he was getting tired of the Pacific Stream canned food so I gave him the high prairie canned food and he really didn't seem to want to it it. And he didn't eat it last night, all night it was sitting there. So I'm back to feeding him the Pacific Stream. :) I threw the can away of the HP. I wonder if he'll eat the PS kibble... It's not a big deal if he doesn't, no harm no foul. He may just be a canned food dog. :) Man, all these years of trying to get him to eat kibble or canned food and we finally find a kind he'll eat! 3 whole years! I'm probably feeding him 2/3 cup a day. I'm not measuring the food out anymore and I've noticed that I'm more likely to put too much down than too little. But he doesn't seem to be gaining weight. He will be weighed sometime next week when we take him to the vet due to a possible yeast infection in an ear and to have his nails clipped. I hope we can get in early this week. He's not scratching too much on his ear so that's good. It must not be bad. I had plans to take him to the vet today or at least call and get an appointment today but I realized they closed at 3pm and are not open tomorrow. GRR. So I'll have to call Mon morning. But yeah, the TOTW kibble isn't a hit. But I'll continue to put it down for him since I'd rather him eat it than Blue Buffalo. BB isn't bad I just want to stick with one brand if possible. He doesn't seem hungry except for when he's begging in the evening for who knows what. Usually we give him a dentastix or a greenie in the evening (or both at different times) when he begs. I don't know if that's what he really wants or not. We can't figure it out otherwise. We are afraid to walk him in the dark now because he got stung or bit by something about a week ago in teh dark at 11:30 or so at night. Poor guy was not walking on that leg and was licking it nonstop all night. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to chat a bit. Nobody is on the YT java chat and I feel chatty so that's why I've been long-winded here. :) lol HUGS! |
I started introducing Kody to TOTW on this past Saturday. I have been mixing the pacific stream with Kody's food since Saturday, so far so good. He seems to like it a lot. I had been feeding him Royal Canine Yorkie because he did well with it and no diarrhea like Wellness but the cost for a 2.5lb bag is ridiculous. So I as noted above I sent for samples from TOTW and they sent plenty. I have not tried any other flavor as of yet. Stools are even better, and now he goes right after his meal 2x a day, has been like clock work. I ordered a 10lb. I hope he continues to do well with it. So much cheaper and better for him. |
We've tried Bentley on the High Prairie canned food and he doesn't seem to like it at all. We have one can of the Wetlands formula and we haven't tried him on that yet. He seems to be eating the Pacific Stream canned very well. So we'll continue feeding that to him. I have samples of the kibble and he wont eat it. No big deal, he's getting enough food from the canned I think. I feed him now 1/3 cup twice a day (I don't measure anymore though so it could be more than that). I'm glad Kody likes the Pacific Stream :) Are you feeding the canned or kibble? |
We put the sample bags of kibble we get into a glass canister on the counter and give them out like treats- when the dogs hear that glass cover "clink" they come running! My husband likes to be too generous with the treats and this solves that problem. |
I tried giving the kibble as a treat and Bentley wouldn't eat it. LOL He's super picky though. OH and I just got another box of samples! I have all this food now and he won't eat it. I wonder why they sent me a second box..?? I think I'm going to give it away to someone who could use it. |
shape of taste of the wild kibble? Can someone give me an idea of what the "shape" and "size" is of the TOTW Pacific Stream food? Is it small enough for puppies? I tried feeding the Orijen Puppy over the w.end and had bad experience with it for my baby yorkie. It's hard to say that IT for sure was the issue. Because she also had her Heartguard chewable the same day. She had a terrible gi upset and it sent her to the ER sunday evening.. Our vet seems to think it was caused from the heartguard. She went to the vet today bc her appetite was gone and she also had stool with mucous and blood. She took cerenia for the last 3 days and she is also eating (as of today) the vet wanted her to eat Iam's low residue. She said when we go back to her normal food we will switch gradually. She was eating wellness puppy but she was really not loving the food. I also would prefer to feed her a grain free. I am leaning towards giving the TOTW Pacific Stream based on what i have read here and the positive feedback. I do also like the fact that the protein and fat content are very close to the wellness puppy. So we will continue on the Prostora probiotic and Iam's until the vet suggests we switch back to her normal diet. She has only been on kibble for 4 wks as she is just now 3 mos old today. I did read some info on ethoxyquin used in TOTW but I can't find any feedback on that. Does anyone know about that or have concerns while feeding the TOTW pacific stream? Thanks so much! Renee |
TOTW Is it easy or hard to chew? Sorry for another post.. Is the TOTW Pacific Stream easy to chew? The Orijen was very hard and Bella could not chew it. She would swallow it whole and I know that it's ok for them to do that but I don't prefer that. Renee |

TOTW kibbles are smaller than Orijen. They are not "tiny" but they are also not very large. I think they would be easier to chew for your little one. |
Ziva has a very small mouth, she really had a hard time with kibble until she got her adult teeth (solid gold wee bits was one of the few she managed) Now that she is 2, I know she can chew up anything she chooses! The TOTW kibble is the size of a slightly flattened M&M candy. Ziva cracks them in half very easily. |
Mickey chews the samples of Sierra we got. He swallows Acana. So I would say there is something different about the shape. Anyone try the Pacific Steam? Mickey's eyes are runny on the Sierra (Lamb). |
