what do you feed your yorkie Hey guys and gals... just curious to know what you feed your yorkie... Lucy hates her food.. i know they are picky eaters.. but every time were in my grandmothers house Lucy runs to my grandmothers dogs dish like its heaven in a bowl. lol.. its only kibbles in bits but it looks very flavorful.. lol... but i dont want to switch Lucy to kibbles n bits. so i was wondering what everyone on here feeds their yorkies. p.s. lucy eats nutro choice, lamb flavored.. (sometimes i have to put a little parmesan on it just to get her to eat) i know it sounds silly but she REALLY does hate her food Thanks!! |
Mine seems to really like Natural Balance, I give her their premium small dog which is a mix of chicken, lamb and salmon. Tho they are known for their limited ingredient blends like sweet potato and duck, I like the idea of multiple protein sources. Kibbles and bits has a lot of corn syrup and artificial flavorings in it to make it attractive to dogs.. unfortunately almost any dog will at least try it since it's got all the crap on it.. I had a very very picky pekingese who liked wellness food, she was on nutro for years and one day just wouldn't eat it anymore.. I tried several different brands on her before we went to wellness. One other brand she liked was the Costco brand premium dog food. That comes in a HUGE bag (I think 30lbs which is huge for a small dog) though and would go stale long before we were able to use it all. Good luck! |

As of now, he's eating Orijen. He loves it so far. :) |
Mine love Life's Abundance. And I agree.....they always love whats in the others bowl even if its the same in their bowl! LOL :p |
I have been a Wellness user for quite awhile however Lily has been turning her nose up at this lately. I am going to switch over to Go Natural Chicken with fruit and vegetables. I have heard very good things about this company and the protein content isn't real high which I like. |
Thanks everyone for the input!! i wish their was a store that sold samples so you could have your dog pick lol.. ive been looking online at a few different brands. i noticed that the kibbles n bits has cheese flavoring in it. i think thats why lucy likes it.. does any one know if any of the better brands have cheese in it? |
Get a good quality food...then sprinkle a little bit of grated parmigiana cheese on top. |
I feed pre-made raw - mostly the Primal brand. |
For kibble, Levi is currently eating Taste of the Wild (Sierra Mountain). We've fed Orijen and Blue Buffalo in the past. He also gets Stella and Chewy's dehydrated raw a couple times a week for variety. |

Agree. I have received samples from Artemis (they sent me 10 sample bags), Taste of the Wild (they sent me 2 sample bags of each flavor), and Solid Gold (they sent me a sample bag). Go to their website and e-mail them and they will send you samples. Right now, Sparky eats Taste of The Wild High Prairie on the weekdays, and Nature's Variety Chicken Raw on weekends. I buy the smallest bags of kibble and my plan is to change his food every time he finishes a bag. We will be trying the Pacific Stream flavor of TOTW next. |
We just switched from Wellness to Taste of the Wild, and alternate between Pacific Stream and Sierra Mountain. |
we feed chicken soup----they do send free samples if you email them. maddie loves it, and she not allergic to it. :) |
Mine love Taste of the Wild- Pacific stream |
Taste of the Wild. The new Lamb formula. If you email them they will send you samples. |
I just went through a year of trying to find a food my baby would eat. I even tried cooking for her. Finally, I tried Stella & Chewy's dog food and she loves it. I consider it to be a very high quality dog food and intend to keep her on it. I'm just so glad to have found something she likes. |
Teddy eats a mixture of Taste of the Wild- Pacific stream and Solid Gold. |

Both Petco and Petsmart will let you return food your dog wont eat as long as it's a premium brand. I don't think they will give you cash back(maybe I've never tried) but they will exchange it for another brand or flavor of your choice.. Just buy the smallest bag and make sure you keep your receipts.. |
thanks for all the great feed back. i didnt know about returning food and getting samples. im going to start emailing and calling some companies to see if i can get samples. also how does everyone feel about Eukanuba? i've heard its a really great brand.. but has anyones dog ever had it.. and liked it? lol |

You can read food reviews at this site: Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble There are some good brands available at Petco and Petsmart if you do your research. If you are willing to drive to a specialty store, you will find better quality options. |

Like Iams, Eukanuba was once a good premium pet food who built a really good reputation through the quality of their product. But they sold their company and with it their brand reputation to P&G, who reformulated the product for mass production.. It's not the same food/formula that it was when they made a name for themselves. Even if they just change suppliers it changes the food, but going to mass production required a lot of product, supplier and quality control changes. I wouldn't feed it to mine just because I really don't have a lot of faith in the corporation, they aren't quick to recall if something comes up, and their primary motivation is financial instead of nutritional. That being said, I know a lot of people who use it will have dogs who are just fine.. I'm just an over protective mommy to my fur baby.. |
The boys are eating Acana Prairie (Chicken) right now. |

Louie eats Wellnes super 5 mix and loves it:) |
Sasha eats Primal raw in the morning and Blue Buffalo Wilderness kibble in the evening. |
Our town has a pet boutique that sells only 2 kinds of dog food that they find suitable (because they have all kinds of good ingredients and aren't full of additives like corn): Canidae and Taste of the Wild. The woman who runs it told me that Taste of the Wild is something she definitely recommends, but she recommended for me to give my baby Canidae until she's maybe 6 months and then switch to Taste of the Wild because the Canidae is a little bit smaller first of all, and because Taste of the Wild either had a little too much protein, or the Canidae a couple of proteins that are better for puppies (not sure which exactly: I was overwhelmed with information that day, lol). I think my puppy's breeder has her on Eukanuba now, but it's not quite as good as the new brands, so I'm willing to give it a shot. Hope that helped! P.S., Taste of the Wild can be found at TSC (Tractor Supply Company)! |

Miss Picky LOVES TOTW, she's tried & liked all of the varieties but I seem to feed her the Lamb formula more often since it's one of the leaner ones. They did send a ton of samples, I think it was like 48oz. |
morgan is not home yet/ probably another 2 weeks but I am going to feed him Merricks |
