| Diet Help Needed!!! I have a male Yorkie whom will be 2 in September. He has always been on the thinner side compared to other Yorkies but still in overall good health. He is extremely picky about food. Of course our Vet as many others recommends Science Diet but Hadley will not eat it. The only thing he will eat is Dog Chow Small Bites. Now I know I am going to catch some slack for feeding this but if you haven't already, look closely at the ingredients in Dog Chow and Science Diet. There is not much difference at all. I have read and read countless reviews on what to feed a Yorkie and everyone has a different opinion. My problem is this....Hadley is itching terribly lately. He does not have fleas or really any skin issues. I have looked and looked at his skin and I don't even see any dry skin. Sometimes he is even biting at his skin. He did have a UTI a few months back but after treatment he recovered. Other than that he has never had any other problems. Lately along with the itching he just wants to sleep a lot and kinda has a sad look on his face. I am leaning towards allergies here and thought maybe it was his food. I am scared to try something new because then I will risk him not eating at all. Any advice is greatly appreciated. |

| There are worst things in the world than feeding dog chow as long as it is complete and balanced for your pup's life stage. That said, you should be able to feed whatever you want to feed. Put the bowl of kibble down. Comes back up in 20 minutes - twice a day. Two choices - take it or leave it. No treats, no chewies until eating consistently. You'll need to ask the vet how long they think it is safe to take this approach. If the current food is not going to work, then you may just have to get tough. This could be a food allergy but may not be. Have you talked to the vet about it? When did it start?

| sounds like allergies to me. Peanut has flea allergies. My grandmothers chi had allergies to grass. She was not let outside much because of this. I have a friend that has a yorkie that has corn allergies. Try an organic food, with no soy, corn, or wheat. Have you tried Blue? Expensive, but really good. There is also a food out now called 4health. It is soy, corn and wheat free. Taste of the Wild is a good one too. I would try food first and then grass. Bathe him off every day or two, just a warm rinse and see if that helps???

Thanks for the feedback. I just realized that sometimes when he doesn't eat good, I put a soft topper food on his dry. Maybe that is it. If he isn't better soon I will be taking him to the Vet. Thanks again.

I never thought about grass. I will keep him in a few days and see if it gets better, thanks. And thanks for the examples of other food choices as well
