How old is your puppy now...avatar looks young..and if so, she no doubt came from the breeder with the problem...a puppy can test positive for coccidia and actually have no symtoms..and many worms have to be a long time infestation for there to be signs..especially tape, and round worms take time also. Hooks are more dangerous. |

The Albon and Panacur are both being used to treat giardia and coccidea. Some vets have success with using Panacur (the dewormer) for these protozoans even though they aren't worms. I've read a 1 part bleach to 10 parts water solution of bleach can work for giardia and hard surfaces. Otherwise, wash everything in very hot water and dry thoroughly. That's about all you can do. Not seeing much about coccidea. Bleach doesn't seem to work. Ammonia is pretty effective, but obviously never mix it with bleach. Always rinse well and let dry before letting Fur back in the area. Bath in her regular shampoo to attempt to remove any cysts in her fur. I wouldn't get hung up on the rabies vaccine being given. Did the vet know she had inappetance? Giardia and coccidea don't usually cause symptoms. A lot of healthy dogs have them. The most common place to pick up things like this is yucky water. Now I see that she is young. So yes, probably came from the breeder. |
Abby is just about 4 months now and she had no symptoms. The vet told me to bring stool when she went yesterday for her rabies shot. Then this morning she called about the results. The vet didn't seem too concerned she didn't even have me bring her back in. I just had to go and pick up the meds which I started her on today. She had this stool test the day after I got her about 5-6 weeks ago and it came back ok. So I thought she got it from here somehow but the vet says it takes time to show up so she thinks that how I got her. |
Everyone thanks so much for all your help. I come absolutely unglued when things aren't right with Abby. I am waiting for the vet to call back for any other instructions. I think now maybe I can hear what she is saying. The minute I seen her on my caller ID I stopped functioning since I knew there was some kind of problem. Poor Abby not only is she sick with this yuck but her mom is useless in a crisis. |
Coccidia should be cleaned up with BOILING HOT water.... Boil a huge pot of water and shut off the flame. Put toys and any small items in the pot and let it sit for 30 minutes. Then you should wash the items in a washing machine on the hottest cycle you can with a regular detergent. Wash all surfaces with Boiling hot water and ammonia in a 10% solution. DO NOT EVER MIX BLEACH WITH AMMONIA AS THIS CAN KILL YOU. Alternatively you can wash with ammonia and STEAM clean if the steam mop is very hot like as in the Haan steam mops which reach 212 degrees F. Forget the lysol! Please check with your vet, the CDC or another source as I am not 100% sure of this protocol to kill the protozoan coccidia. |
I'm so happy you got better help...lol...I tried...I wasn't to far off...Good luck hun...and Hope your baby feels better soon. |
Ok I will try the ammonia solution, I have a Shark steamer mop but I do not know how hot it gets. |
Every one has been helpful and I thank you very much |

I think the shark only goes to around 100-110 so not hot enough. The Haan I have is the SI-35 slim and it heats to 212 and costs around $140 and I love it. |
ok I will look into that as well. Do you remember where you got it? I guess I can go online and get it as well. Is it just a mop or is there a handheld device as well. Abby sleeps with me so I am concerned about my mattress also. |

It's just a mop. I have used it on my mattress and carpets to sanitize. This is the one I have and a list of stores that have it Steam Mops | Garment Steamers | Hand Held Steam Cleaners | Portable Steamers - HAAN Corp |
