Oh Kendra! How scary. Glad he is doing well this morning! |
KONG treat holders I've seen them at PetSmart, Walmart and at our local pet stores...you can see what they look like here Classic KONGS - Legendary Strength, Super bouncy and irresistible - CLASSIC KONG MEDIUM (4.7 oz/140gm) There not expensive and work perfect with bully sticks. |

I'm going to hop on the bandwagon - I use the Kong toy for treat holders also. My little one goes nuts when she sees me have her red Kong toy in my hands! I agree it makes it so much easier for them to handle the treat. :) |
I have 2 of those kongs but never thought of that. Jazi, is sooo gentle with her bully sticks but I'm going to try it. I use my kongs to put peanut butter in when I have company. (My Cairn, Izi, is a constant anxiety barker and agressive chewer...that really keeps her quiet). |
What a great idea!! We have a kong! I will definately start doing that....I almost dont want to give them anymore bully sticks even though they really like them! But, in a Kong, it would be so much safer! |
I love that kong idea too. I would think a small piece would be digestable. Glad he is ok. I only let mine chew on bully sticks for 15-20 minutes at a time then I take them away. That way I can monitor the leftovers. They have gotten to where they understand this routine too. When it is time to take the bully away, I say "time's up" then I go to the treat jar and get a treat. At that point both of mine immediately drop their bully or what is left of it and sit and wait on their treat. I pick up their bully then give the treat. This way I don't have to worry about any aggression towards me taking thier bully or competition towards one another. It works pretty good for us. When it is pretty small I throw it away. |
We have never used Bully Sticks -- do they get the dogs face all messy? Our vet is absolutely against raw hide chewies because the dog's saliva activates and moistens the raw hide and then grows bacteria which the dog continues to ingest -- so don't know if Bully Sticks are in that category, but Cali really needs something for her teeth/breath. |

I know alot of people have alot of luck ordering the Oder free ones from Best Bully Sticks Online. Odor Free Best Bully Sticks I hear, although I never tried this particular brand, are hardly stinky at all. I bought some at Petsmart recently, called True Chews.. Taycie actually got it... It was rather funny we were walking by a display that I wasn't paying attention and they were hanging rather low, she jumped up and grabbed it! I looked down and she had it her in mouth! It was really cute:) She knew she was shopping! Surprisingly, They don't stink at all, they have more of a smoky smell, which doesn't bother me at all. True Chews Dog Treats and Chews |
