What have you tried since your original post? Has he been treated for the itching at all either OTC or by something from the vet, oral or topical? You need something to get it under control for now regardless of the cause or he can get a bad skin infection. What are you feeding him? Have you bathed him again, if so with what? There's alot of different things that could be going on here, either food allergies, reaction to the shampoo you used, environmental alergies, even possibly mange:eek:. You need a vet that will do a skin scraping to check if it is something like mange, that's transferable to humans and nothing to mess around with and since (I think) you said he came from a shelter, it's possible. Has he been thoroughly checked for fleas and flea dander (poop)? Alot of people assume it's obvious when a dog has or has had fleas, but I've seen a ton of people be really surprized to find out their dogs does/recently did. There's just a ton of possibilities and you have to rule so many things out sometimes before you get to the cause |
Sounds so much like I went through with my girl, Molly. After thousands of dollars on vet bills, skin biopsies, etc. we finally tried at least 10 different foods and Blue Buffalo fish and sweet potato was the only thing that stopped most of her itch, along with once a month in between shampoos she was bathed with selsum Blue. Alot of the time my vet said you never know for sure but by eliminating things one by one , you can zero in. Also she was on benedryl twice a day in the spring/summer sometimes. My poor girl scratched so much she got her toe infected and had to have it amputated. I was at wits end also and getting broke quickly. When they are so umcomfortable , its very hard to watch . |

I'd see a veterinary dermatologist at this point, especially if it's getting worse. How's his weight? Was his thyroid tested (it would have been a specific blood test)? |
He is right now on Blue with salmon and it stopped for a while we have been trying bennadryl and its very hard to take him to the vet because it is sooo expensive i know it is not fleas due to the fact that we live in vegas and we dont have fleas here |

The fact that he is losing fur and his skin is now red, means he could be also have an infection (all over). He's miserable, from what you're saying; he needs you to take him in for help. Please take him to a Vet Dermatologist; my Vet Derm has offices in Las Vegas - and it's very easy to get an app't there: Las Vegas, Nevada Las Vegas Animal Emergency Clinic 5231 West Charleston Blvd. Las Vegas, NV 89146 Phone: (702) 821-1002 Fax: (702) 821-1007 Las Vegas, Nevada Animal Emergency Center 3340 East Patrick Lane Las Vegas, Nevada 89120 Phone: (702) 434-1002 Fax: (702) 821-1007 |
Hartz is bad news read up on these peoples stories here HartzVictims.org - One More Victim is One Too Many Also maybe try Tropiclean or medicated shampoo and take him to the vet to see if there is an infection. The only smell I would think YT or any dog should have is is from playing outside or walks lol. Minnie never has the dog smell unless taken on a walk. I hope things get better and also he may be allergic to what you have used on him as well. Quote:
