Suggestion please on Premium food!!
 

Bella is currently on Halo dog food both wet/dry. Well she has had a few episodes with vomiting. I took her to the vet today and she wants me to switch her dog food.

She said it needs to have less than 12% fat and to either just feed her the wet food or dry with water added to it for two weeks to see if that helps.

So, my question is, what is a GOOD premium brand that I can get my hands on NOW? Like offered at Petco or something. Her vet said Science Diet and Eukanuba are good. Only thing is I could swear I read on here that those have corn fillers and such and are NOT good quality.

Suggestions PLEASE, I'm desperate for my baby to feel better! :)

Oh, glad it isn't something really awful causing her vomiting. I'm sure you will get some good answers here.

The best food is the one your pup feels well eating. Yes, SD and Eukanuba do have what people would call fillers, but that doesn't necessarily make them terrible foods.

The "premium, holisic" brands that are talked about on YT - certainly worth a try, but very few are going to have less than 12% fat. Possibly Natural Balance. Almost no anned food will have such a low fat %. You you might end up needing an rx diet.

Maybe Wysong? Or maybe theirs are low protein (not low fat).

I am all over protein levels but know little about fat levels, but I would go to petco and give natural balance a look, I have had great success with their limited ingredient diets.

Actually I just checked online, all the limited ingredient diets are 10 percent fat including the duck that comes in small bites.

Oh, thank you, thank you soooo much! That is what I will try first then! The vet kept telling me to try her back on IVet (from their office) but she just won't eat it! LOL

What about Iams just in case? That's another one she mentioned.

You may not see immediate results with the itching, but the tummy upset should clear up pretty quick if it is food issues.

Note: Suki HATED it when I switched her food to the NB LID duck and green pea and refused to touch the stuff unless she was starving. However, it was all I would leave for her so she did eat it. She literally was peeved at me for days (no cuddles for mommy :().

I started mixing it with the LID wet food and gradually reduced the amount I would add. She did get over it eventually and starting eating it straight dry, but it took awhile to break her stubborn streak. Once they came out with the larger bags of NB LID salmon and green pea I started buying that and she likes it a lot more! :thumbup: Rylie on the other hand LOVED the duck and potato stuff right away. Go figure. :rolleyes:

Even more annoying, now that Rylie gets the duck and potato Suki has taken to sneaking food out of Rylie's bowl. Guess her hate of the food is overridden by her hate of Rylie getting something she doesn't. Cats really are a pain in the arse :p

Though Suki stealing from Rylie is another reason I put Rylie on the LID too, to avoid complications for Suki. However, I do continue to chase Suki away from Rylie's stuff when I catch her because cats and dogs should not be eating the same food. They have different nutritional needs.

Yes, it is going to be a challenge around here also. My mom lives with us and has 2 toy poodles now, and they both eat Halo. Gonna be a battle keeping htem out of HER food. My mom keeps their food in her room behind a baby gate.
